We are seeking an experienced CNC Programming Manager to lead our Programming team in support of a custom sheet metal fabrication operation.
This role combines technical leadership with hands-on manufacturing knowledge. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in CNC programming, CAD/CAM systems, sheet metal fabrication processes, and team leadership. You will oversee a team of programmers responsible for converting engineering and project requirements into accurate, efficient, and production-ready manufacturing programs.
Success in this position requires a solid understanding of fabrication equipment, manufacturing tolerances, material behavior, and shop operations. While this role does not own production scheduling or manufacturing workflow, it works closely with Production, Engineering, and Project Management to ensure programming deliverables support production requirements and project timelines.
The ideal candidate is a technical leader who understands both programming and manufacturing. They have earned credibility through hands-on experience in fabrication environments and can effectively bridge the gap between Engineering, Programming, and Production.
We're looking for someone who not only knows how to create programs but also understands what it takes to successfully manufacture the finished product.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of programmers while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused culture.
- Prioritize team workloads and oversee the timely release of programming packages to support production schedules and project deadlines.
- Review and approve CNC programs, nesting layouts, fabrication documentation, and other programming deliverables to ensure accuracy, quality, and manufacturability.
- Establish programming standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Troubleshoot programming-related production issues and provide technical guidance on machine capabilities, tooling, fabrication methods, and material requirements.
- Evaluate drawings and project requirements for manufacturability, fabrication feasibility, tolerances, and potential production risks.
- Partner closely with Engineering, Production, Project Management, and Shop Leadership to support operational and project objectives.
- Participate in technical reviews and help evaluate new technologies, software, and equipment that improve programming and manufacturing performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in CNC programming, CAD/CAM programming, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical manufacturing role.
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading or supervising technical personnel.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes including cutting, forming, welding, and assembly operations.
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing tolerances, blueprint reading, and fabrication requirements.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software and nesting applications.
- Ability to evaluate designs and programming strategies from a manufacturing perspective.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in custom fabrication or architectural metal manufacturing environments.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting CNC laser, punch, brake, routing, or related fabrication equipment.
