As a Clinical Pharmacist, a caregiver in this role will support inpatient pharmacy operations at Akron General, serving multiple inpatient service lines and providing medication preparation, distribution and operational support across the hospital. The caregiver will rotate through a variety of operational functions, including patient chart review and medication order verification, non-sterile and sterile compounding checks, triaging patient care needs and supporting pharmacist and technician workflows.
A caregiver in this position will work 7 consecutive night shifts, from Monday - Monday, 9pm-7am. Enjoy a flexible 7-on/7-off schedule with eligibility for additional incentive pay based on hours worked each pay period.A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Provides safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
- Independently assumes responsibility for the full scope of pharmacy operations typically distributed across multiple pharmacists, technicians, and specialized roles during daytime hours, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication use.
- Performs all distributive, technical, and operational pharmacy functions without onsite support, including medication verification and dispensing, operation and troubleshooting of automated medication systems (e.g., carousel), and preparation of sterile compounded medications.
- Delivers clinical and operational pharmacy support, with bedside response as required, for high acuity events such as cardiopulmonary arrest and stroke alerts, serving as the sole onsite pharmacist.
- Provides immediate assessment, troubleshooting, and resolution of system downtime, automation failures, and facilities disruptions, and escalates issues appropriately to on call pharmacy leadership, IT, facilities, and other support services.
- Verifies medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
- Documents services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
- Utilizes available technology proficiently and to full extent, in their area of practice.
- Ensures all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
- Maintains professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.
- Maintains professional working relationships with all caregivers.
- Promotes a positive work environment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improve services and the department.
- Educates and trains students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
- Provides cost-effective care.
- Accountable for drug use policy adherence.
- Utilizes time and resources effectively.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy
- Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire
- For individuals required to administer immunizations,Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required
- For individuals required to respond to adult or pediatric cardiopulmonary arrest events, current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification through American Heart Association (AHA), or certification obtained within one (1) year of hire, is required
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Board Certification
- Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience
- Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area
Physical Requirements:- Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
- Must have normal or corrected vision.
- Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person
