SummaryThe Chief Physicist provides clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for the regional medical physics and dosimetry programs, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, innovation, and patient-centered care across regional radiation oncology sites.
Job Duties- Trains, orients and mentors physics and dosimetry staff in routine and new procedures, regulations, and principles related to the technical aspects of Radiation Oncology.
- Develops and ensures compliance of appropriate department policies, procedures, and reporting requirements. Maintains the radioactive material and medical accelerator licenses are in good standing.
- Responsible for radiation safety processes and oversight to ensure a safe work environment. Maintains clinical
competence of staffing across modalities
- Coordinates and participates in the implementation of new equipment and software including acceptance, commissioning, and training.
- Oversees, advises, and participates in treatment planning activities. Collaborates with physicians, dosimetrists, and other colleagues to develop optimal treatment plans.
- Performs or participates in clinical treatment procedures as required by regulatory guidance and departmental policy.
- Responsible for radiation safety processes and oversight to ensure a safe work environment. Maintains clinical
competence of staffing across modalities.
- Ensures accurate and timely quality assurance testing including patient specific reviews, measurements, equipment
calibration and routine testing. Maintains appropriate documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s Degree Medical Physics or equivalent
- 5 years Clinical experience
- Excellent communication skills to provide a seamless fit into the collegiate environment.
- Rigorous in their clinical work.
- Have strong clinical, research, and educational ambitions
- Therapeutic Medical Physics - American Board of Radiology Upon Hire or
- Radiation Oncology Physics - American Board of Medical Physicists Upon Hire
Preferred Qualifications- Doctorate Ph.D. in medical physicis or closely related field
Additional QualificationsPhysical DemandsLift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
