Full Job Description
What You'll Be Doing

As part of the Electrical Engineering team the Cable Harness Designer will be responsible for the design, analysis, build, testing, and troubleshooting of cable harnesses for our robotic and autonomous systems. You will design, build, and test the initial prototypes before launching your designs to our production team. Once your designs are in production you will be responsible for addressing any issues or concerns from production and implementing necessary design changes.

Applications include custom designed electronics, autonomous vehicle integration and support (off-road, military, and some commercial), after-market autonomy upgrades, and the integration of various perception sensors (stereo, LIDAR, etc).

CRL design efforts cover the full range of technical readiness levels from early technology demonstrators and prototypes all the way through volume manufacturing of our products at a rate of several thousands per year. Regardless of the life cycle, and whether the emphasis is on safety or manufacturing yield, strong engineering rigor through deep theoretical knowledge, analysis, and testing are required in this position.

You will be responsible for all aspects of the design process, and will need to align your engineering methods to support the goals of the program. This will vary between speed and cost over your career at CRL, but performance and quality will always be priority #1. As you contribute to some of the most advanced robotic systems around, you will be supported by your teammates including a Technical Program Manager and other discipline experts in the fields of Mechanical, Systems, and Software Engineering.

What Your Day to Day Is
  • Work with program management and project engineers to identify cable harness requirements for a project
  • Design cable harnesses for vehicle power distribution, vehicle communication busses, box builds, and embedded electronics
  • Identify components and cabling based on performance and functional requirements of the program
  • Design and capture cable harnesses using tools such as Solidworks, Altium Designer, and Visio
  • Fabricate initial prototypes and integrate them onto host equipment
  • Develop production tooling such as wire harness boards
  • Launch your designs to production and support them through the life of the product

What You'll Have
  • An Associate's Degree, or Bachelor's of Science in a related technical discipline such as Electronics as Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience designing cable harnesses
  • Experience with CAD and EDA tools such as Solidworks, Altium Designer, and Visio
  • Experience with a variety of connectors and their associated tooling such as standard rectangular connectors, M12, MIL spec, and modular
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Experience with engineering debug and analysis using tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and signal generators
  • Experience authoring design documentation: requirements documents, test specifications, technical memos, and hardware design specifications for fabrication and assembly
  • The ability to drive tasks independently and communicate issues and needs clearly, while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with working with supply chain and vendors
  • Must be a US Person. US Persons include:
    • US Citizens
    • US Nationals
    • Lawful Permanent Residents
    • Workers granted refugee status
    • Workers granted asylum

What You Get Out of It
  • UPMC health coverage with FSA or HSA options
  • Comprehensive dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Fidelity 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Free catered lunch every day with a vegan option
  • 31 Days of PTO (including holidays)
