Full Job Description
Location: Centennial, CO; eligible for hybrid work schedule

Position Summary

The Business Systems Manager is the functional owner of Forgen's enterprise business applications, beginning with CMiC and extending across the broader business application portfolio. The position serves as Forgen's subject matter expert for CMiC Financials, Project Management, and HR/Payroll, and works as an embedded partner to Forgen's operating groups - accountable to them for whether the systems make the work easier.

This position translates how estimating, project management, job costing, payroll, and field operations actually work into system configuration, reporting, workflow design, integration, testing, and user enablement. The Manager title reflects ownership of an application portfolio, not supervision; this position has no direct reports. General end-user support, endpoint administration, and network and server administration are outside its scope, though CMiC functional escalation belongs to this role. Success is measured in part by whether operating group leadership regards this position as a working partner rather than a support function.

Compliance and Audit Manager

Access reviews, segregation of duties, and evidence for CMMC and NIST SP 800-171 control objectives

Key Responsibilities

Operating Group Partnership
  • Maintain a standing review with each operating group's leadership covering open items, adoption, and upcoming change.
  • Spend scheduled time on active jobsites each quarter observing how project teams and crews actually use the systems, and carry what you find back into the backlog.
  • Co-design solutions with the operating group that owns the process, facilitate validation, and secure their agreement on approach before build begins.
  • Own the application request and enhancement backlog, prioritized jointly with operating group and Accounting leadership.

Business Application and CMiC Administration
  • Administer security roles, user access, workflow approvals, and system configuration across CMiC, Project Management, HR/Payroll, and related modules, extending to additional business applications as the portfolio grows.
  • Maintain master data integrity, including chart of accounts, cost codes, job and project setup, vendor and subcontractor records, and organizational hierarchies.
  • Monitor system performance and data integrity, identifying and resolving configuration issues before they impact operations.
  • Manage upgrades, patches, and new module rollouts, including test planning, regression testing, and coordination with vendor support and internal stakeholders.

Business Process, Requirements, and Configuration
  • Work alongside project teams in the office and on site to map how the work actually gets done, including the exceptions and undocumented workarounds.
  • Model current-state and future-state processes; document system requirements, scope, and acceptance criteria precise enough for a vendor or developer to build and test against, and record what was decided and why.
  • Support month-end and job cost close by troubleshooting system issues and validating configuration ahead of financial reporting deadlines.
  • Perform fit and gap analysis on proposed modules, platforms, and integrations, and present a recommendation.

Reporting, Data, and Integration
  • Design, build, and maintain reports and dashboards, including Power BI, supporting Operations, Accounting, and executive leadership.
  • Extract, validate, and analyze project cost, billing, and payroll data to support decision-making, reconciliation, and audit requests.
  • Define and steward data standards for job numbering, cost code and cost type structures, and vendor and employee master data, and reconcile data across systems and periods.
  • Manage data imports, exports, and integrations with adjacent systems including payroll, HRIS, procurement, estimating, document control, and environmental health and safety platforms, including API and data-mapping troubleshooting.

Support, Training, and Documentation
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for CMiC and business application support tickets, triaging issues, coordinating with vendor support, and communicating resolution timelines to end users.
  • Develop and deliver end-user training and reference materials for both office and field roles; measure adoption after go-live and follow up where usage diverges from design intent.
  • Build and maintain a library of standard operating procedures, configuration documentation, and system change logs.
  • Act as a resource and mentor to Super Users across business units, building internal capability beyond the core support team.
  • Partner with the Compliance and Audit Manager on user access reviews, segregation of duties, and evidence collection for NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC control objectives on in-scope systems.
  • Embrace Forgen's Core Values in all aspects of the role and perform additional assignments as directed.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Accounting, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Four to seven years of related experience administering or supporting enterprise business applications, including hands-on configuration, security, and reporting.
  • Three or more years in a project-based industry - construction, heavy civil, specialty trade contracting, engineering, utilities, environmental services, or field services - working directly with operations or field teams rather than solely within an IT organization.
  • Hands-on functional experience with a construction or project-accounting ERP such as CMiC, HCSS, Vista by Viewpoint, Sage 300 CRE, or Acumatica Construction.
  • Working knowledge of construction accounting and project cost processes, including job costing, cost codes and cost types, committed cost, change orders, billing, subcontract compliance, work in progress, and payroll as applied within an ERP.
  • Demonstrated ability to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translate them into system configuration and workflow design; candidates should be prepared to discuss specific artifacts they authored.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify root cause and drive issues to resolution.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data validation, reconciliation, and analysis, plus working proficiency in Power BI, SQL, or a comparable reporting and query platform.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in user-friendly terms to field, finance, and executive audiences.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive financial, operational, payroll, and controlled project information.
  • Ability to travel as required, obtain and maintain jobsite access, and comply with Forgen and project-specific safety requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct CMiC experience, including Enterprise, Field, or Collaborate modules, and CMiC Business Intelligence or Report Writer.
  • Experience in the construction industry, particularly heavy civil, geotechnical, environmental, or specialty contracting.
  • Experience supporting an ERP upgrade, migration, or module implementation from planning through go-live.
  • Familiarity with API-based or middleware integrations, Microsoft 365 and Power Platform, or construction platforms such as Procore, HCSS, B2W, Bluebeam, or InEight.
  • Experience in an environment subject to DFARS [redacted], NIST SP 800-171, or CMMC, or with prevailing wage and Davis-Bacon reporting.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a collaborative, team-based approach and comfort working through ambiguous or undocumented system behavior.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role is performed in a mix of office and active jobsite environments, requiring frequent computer use, effective communication, and interaction with cross-functional stakeholders. Travel to Forgen offices and project sites is required for stakeholder engagement, observation, training, testing, and go-live support. Site visits may involve extended periods of standing or walking, and on site the employee must be capable of traversing construction-type terrain under active development and climbing ladders and temporary stairways. Site exposure may include dust and airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, drilling and ground improvement operations, vibration, and potentially impacted soils, groundwater, or other media requiring personal protective equipment up to and including respiratory protection. Noise in the field can be loud, and site work is performed in outside weather conditions.

This job description outlines the general scope of work and is not exhaustive. Employees may be assigned additional duties as needed. Requirements may be adjusted to accommodate disabilities, except where they pose a direct safety risk.

Perks and Benefits

Forgen offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement plans, bonuses, paid time off, and more. We support a flexible work model for most non-craft positions and provide additional perks like education assistance, wellness programs, and employee awards.
