Full Job Description
Business Development Manager (Hybrid) This is an origination-focused opportunity at the front end of Banyan Software's acquisition strategy. You will identify attractive vertical market software businesses, open conversations with founders and owners, and build trusted relationships that can develop into proprietary acquisition opportunities over time. Unlike a traditional software sales role, success is not measured by selling a product. It is measured by expanding Banyan's market coverage, earning the attention and trust of entrepreneurs, and creating a high-quality pipeline of businesses that may one day choose Banyan as their permanent home. You will have front-row access to founders, CEOs, and industry leaders across specialized markets. Every conversation is an opportunity to uncover an exceptional software company, understand an owner's long-term goals, and create the foundation for Banyan's next acquisition. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development, you will own proactive market mapping, proprietary outreach, relationship development, and long-term nurture across assigned verticals. You will work closely with Banyan's M&A; leaders to qualify opportunities and transition promising founder relationships into the acquisition process. If you are energized by origination and want to move away from a traditional private equity model toward a long-term buy-and-hold acquirer, we want to hear from you. Responsibilities 3 Originate proprietary acquisition opportunities by identifying, researching, and engaging vertical market software companies that align with Banyan's investment criteria. 3 Develop detailed market maps and target lists across assigned verticals, continually expanding Banyan's coverage of founder-owned and privately held software businesses. 3 Design and execute thoughtful multi-channel outreach through phone, email, LinkedIn, industry events, conferences, and referral networks. 3 Initiate credible conversations with founders, owners, CEOs, and other senior decision-makers about their businesses, long-term goals, and potential partnership with Banyan. 3 Build trusted, long-duration relationships with prospective acquisition targets, including owners who may be years away from considering a transaction. 3 Qualify opportunities by developing an initial understanding of the company's product, market position, ownership, growth profile, and alignment with Banyan's acquisition strategy. 3 Create and manage structured nurture programs that keep Banyan relevant to founders and generate future acquisition conversations. 3 Partner closely with M&A; Leaders and Portfolio Leadership to prioritize targets, share market intelligence, and transition qualified opportunities into deeper acquisition discussions. 3 Represent Banyan's permanent-home, buy-and-hold philosophy with credibility, curiosity, and respect in every founder interaction. 3 Use Banyan's technology stack, data resources, and origination best practices to improve sourcing effectiveness and efficiency. 3 Maintain accurate relationship histories, activity records, and pipeline tracking in Salesforce, Gong Engage, and other internal systems. 3 Consistently achieve or exceed origination activity, relationship-development, qualified-opportunity, and pipeline goals. Qualifications 3 4+ years of experience in business development, with at least 2 years ideally focused on M&A; origination, deal sourcing, corporate development, private equity business development, or another relationship-led 3 sourcing role. 3 Experience originating opportunities within private equity, investment banking, software M&A;, or a corporate acquisition environment is strongly preferred. 3 Demonstrated ability to identify targets, conduct proactive outreach, and build relationships with founders, business owners, and senior executives. 3 A track record of creating qualified opportunities through proprietary sourcing rather than relying exclusively on inbound or intermediated deal flow. 3 Strong written and verbal communication, with the judgment to tailor outreach to sophisticated founders and executives. 3 Natural curiosity about software businesses, entrepreneurship, niche markets, and how companies create long-term value. 3 Comfort learning new industries and quickly developing a credible point of view on specialized software markets. 3 Patience and persistence to cultivate relationships over extended periods, balanced with the urgency to maintain consistent outreach and follow-through. 3 Comfort working within a metrics-driven origination environment and using data to improve targeting and performance. 3 Entrepreneurial, resilient, coachable, collaborative, and motivated by helping business owners find a permanent home for their companies. 3 Experience with CRM and sales engagement platforms is an asset. 3 Undergraduate degree required; business, finance, economics, or related disciplines are preferred. The expected base salary for this position is CAD $110,000 - $120,000. Overall Target Earnings range from $185K - $200K + Options (when applicable) and uncapped earning potential. Salary is based on a number of factors including market conditions and location, and may vary depending on job-related skills and experience. This position is for an existing vacancy.
