Candidate ProfileThe Building Envelope Project Engineer is responsible for the investigation, assessment, design, and rehabilitation of building envelope systems for existing residential, commercial, and institutional buildings. This role involves close collaboration with clients, architects, contractors, and internal engineering teams to deliver durable, constructible, and high-performing envelope solutions.
The successful candidate is comfortable working on active construction sites, managing multiple projects, and communicating technical concepts clearly to a wide range of stakeholders. A strong commitment to client service, technical depth, and continuous learning is essential. The ideal candidate is inquisitive, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Key ResponsibilitiesDuties include, but are not limited to:
- Manage building envelope projects from initial investigation through design and construction completion
- Conduct site investigations and condition assessments of building envelope systems, including façades, cladding, roofing, glazing, waterproofing, and air/vapour barrier assemblies
- Diagnose building envelope performance issues such as water infiltration, condensation, air leakage, thermal bridging, and material deterioration
- Develop building envelope rehabilitation, repair, and renewal strategies
- Prepare technical reports, condition assessments, and recommendations for clients
- Design building envelope details, drawings, and technical specifications
- Coordinate with structural, architectural, and other engineering disciplines
- Review shop drawings, mock-ups, and submittals related to envelope systems
- Provide construction review and contract administration services during envelope rehabilitation work
- Mentor and support junior engineers, technologists, and interns
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and assist with business development efforts
Professional Qualifications & ExperienceEDUCATION
- Civil Engineering degree (or related discipline) from an accredited university
- Registered with or eligible for registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
EXPERIENCE
- 5 - 10 years of experience in building envelope consulting or building science
- Experience with building envelope investigations, remediation design, and construction review
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff
SKILLS
- Strong understanding of building envelope systems, materials, and performance principles
- Ability to integrate building science concepts with practical, constructible solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality deliverables
