This position is fully remote; preference for residents of WI, MI, MT, CA, FL, and MA

Job Summary:

The biocuration scientist is responsible for the ongoing curation of scientific databases and directories in the AlzForum website (www.alzforum.org). AlzForum provides a high-quality scientific resource and online community to advance Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative disease research. The information stored in these databases includes data on research models, therapeutics, genetic studies, and other aspects of research on AD and related disorders. The biocuration scientist works with the database and the editorial teams to ensure that all information is accurate, up-to-date, and consistent across all parts of the website. Job level commensurate with relevant experience.

POSITION DUTIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Reviews and assesses the scientific literature on AD and related neurodegenerative diseases, with the purpose of evaluating and extracting the relevant data to input into appropriate databases and directories
  • Integrates scientific data from disparate sources into written summaries that are well-structured, referenced, accurate, and clear
  • Helps optimize data presentation using narrative descriptions, diagrams, tables, and other visualization tools
  • Collaborates with scientists on development of new datasets
  • Communicates with scientists, companies, and vendors as necessary to solicit, clarify, and provide information
  • Collaborates and provides input on the ongoing maintenance and design of the databases

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Doctoral degree in biological or medical sciences required, preferably in neuroscience
  • Experience with bench research in an academic or industry laboratory
  • Domain knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases research
  • Ability to gather, evaluate, and synthesize published research findings
  • Excellent scientific writing skills, writes accurately, concisely, and with attention to detail
  • Team player with ability to work independently, and be open and responsive to feedback
  • Outstanding organizational skills with proven ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
