SompoRe has a unique opportunity for an AVP, Accident & Health Reinsurance Underwriterin our Reinsurance North America A&H team.

SompoRe's A&H team offers protection on both a quota share and excess of loss basis, with significant capacity covering products, including but not limited to, Employer Stop Loss; HMO Reinsurance and Provider Excess; Short Term Medical; Special Risk, etc.

Location: This position may be based in our Garden City, NY, New York City, NY, or Morristown, NJ office, with consideration also given to candidates in any of our U.S. office locations. What you'll be doing:
  • Build, maintain, and manage strong broker relationships to drive organic premium growth and establish SompoRe as a trusted partner.
  • Manage underwriting, client management, and development across a niche specialty A&H treaty reinsurance portfolio in alignment with strategic business plans, underwriting appetite, and growth objectives.
  • Underwrite A&H specialty treaty business within established authority, guidelines, and a collaborative two-headed underwriting approach.Achieve stated financial objectives for growth and profitability within the A&H treaty portfolio.
  • Represent SompoRe's capabilities through active engagement in on-site visits, industry conferences, and other networking opportunities.
  • Providing timely and professional services, delivering decisions and solutions promptly.
  • Perform risk analysis (exposure, aggregation, and profitability) using internal models and market data.
  • Participate in special projects that support corporate needs and objectives.


What you'll bring:
  • 5 - 7 years of A&H related experience Broker Market/Direct and Primary.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in specialty underwriting.
  • Proven ability to perform detailed risk analysis and effectively engage in complex negotiations.
  • Industry designations such as ARe and/or CPCU are preferred.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, coupled with strong organizational skills and the capacity to meet tight deadlines.
  • Professional demeanor with a commitment to delivering outstanding client service and building long-term partnerships.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with stakeholders across various levels of the organization.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant software tools, including AI, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other applications.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support client relationships and business objectives.


Salary Range:$150,000 - $200,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
