Major Responsibilities:
  • Supervises activities of the assigned area and provides adequate coverage of all scanners or work assignments daily. Supervision includes monitoring of the staff's productivity levels, accuracy of exam protocols to include all required data parameters and measurements while ensuring appropriate care and monitoring.
  • Coordinates and organizes patient or work task flow through the assigned department, prioritizing procedures and shifting workloads as needed.
  • Ensures adequate patient care is provided as it relates to the procedures requested.
  • Validates quality of exams and the final product performed by all staff within the section. Participates in the training of staff and conducts in-service education and staff meetings as needed.
  • Orders and maintains appropriate supplies for the assigned area. Ensures a process for security of supplies, PAR levels, etc. for each shift.
  • Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse. Medications to include contrast materials cannot be administered without appropriate clinical credentials, training, and certification to do so.
  • Maintains teammate records on assigned staff. Documents PTO, reasons for absences and tardiness. Documents errors and exceptional performance, complaints, and conferences held with individual staff members. Performs payroll functions with documentation of overtime and hours worked. Performs performance appraisals and carries out coaching, counseling, and discipline as needed. Determines merit increases based on budget and policy guidelines.
  • Maintains and communicates status reports for patient throughput, equipment downtime, and supply charges.
  • Responsible for the care and safety of patients in assigned areas. Ensures processes for checking IV's, vents, and other equipment patients were transported with. Assures patients are continuously monitored while in the treatment areas.
  • Maintains a clean, safe working environment for patients and staff.
  • Provides in-service education for staff on new equipment, procedures, safety policies, infection control, radiation safety, and various required electronic communication platforms.
  • Ensures appropriate equipment quality assurance to maintain both regulatory compliance and properly functioning equipment that enables quality diagnostic imaging. Reports to/requests engineering support as needed.
  • Ensures correct billing of exams by monitoring and developing processes for accurate coding and chargemaster compliance.
  • Works with the physician staff to maintain up-to-date SOP's and procedural guidelines.
  • Assists in departmental QA/PI activities as required.


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Registry with either the NMTCB or ARRT and previous supervisory experience required. CPR Registry Required.


Education Required:
  • Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency that ARRT recognizes Radiologic Technology.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment, and supplies.
  • Work requires walking, standing, sitting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling during normal operations.
  • Requires mental capacity to understand the assigned area of clinical expertise or technology.
  • Motor coordination needed to operate equipment including various computer systems.
  • Intact sense of sight and hearing. Required to use radiation safety, MRI safety, and proper ergonomics to maintain an effective, safe environment.


Education Preferred:
  • Bachelor of Science degree preferred.

Experience Preferred:
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in leadership is preferred.
