Description

An Associate Geoscientist performs tasks including installing monitoring wells, collecting soil and groundwater samples, providing detailed lithologic descriptions during drilling or other subsurface activities, and gathering, analyzing, and organizing data for the preparation of accurate, clear, and relevant technical reports. The Associate Geoscientist 3 operates with increased independence, applies established methods and judgments to field and office tasks, and provides mentorship and guidance to junior staff.

Expected Outcome:
  • Perform field assignments including field documentation and sampling tasks associated with assigned projects.
  • Collect and evaluate data as prescribed by the scope of work and present the data in a logical, coherent manner, including preparation of written reports, tables, figures, and illustrations.
  • Apply judgment in field investigation procedures including selection of sampling locations, use of sampling equipment, and implementation of appropriate sampling techniques.
  • Incorporate applicable standards and regulations into deliverables and produce draft deliverables for review with increased technical ownership and reduced oversight.
  • Lead field activities such as groundwater monitoring events, monitoring well installation, and oversight of subcontractors, ensuring work is completed safely and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Perform in a lead capacity across multiple workstreams, including data quality checks, preparation of data tables, geologic maps, and cross sections, and support of technical deliverables.
  • Complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget to the satisfaction of the project management team while proactively identifying and communicating risks or issues.
  • Maintain auditable and organized files, field notes, and project documentation.
  • Conduct all work in compliance with approved project specifications and standard operating procedures defined in the project work scope.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety in own actions and actions of others. Perform EHS activities with minimal oversight and serve as a safety leader by supporting site orientations and reviewing safety planning documents.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, quality, and adherence to schedule, and document/report any variations to project leadership.
  • Coordinate laboratory analysis consistent with project data quality objectives and ensure proper data management.
  • Conduct literature reviews to compile and evaluate relevant project information and incorporate findings into technical documents.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry practices and apply learnings to project execution.
  • Demonstrate awareness of client needs and project objectives and communicate effectively with project leadership.
  • Respond to routine and moderately complex inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geoscience or related field, preferred.
  • 4-7 years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated technical competence in geoscience field investigations and data interpretation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on routine to moderately complex assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and lead field tasks and small teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with team members, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks with limited direction.
  • Ability to function in outdoor locations such as active construction or remediation sites.
  • Ability to walk long distances on varied terrain, climb ladders, and work at elevation.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to receive and deliver detailed information through written and oral communications.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Available to travel as needed.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $61,162 - $80,608 - $99,949
