Description

Springfield College seeks applications for a Director of Athletic Healthcare position. This individual will serve as a faculty member in the Department of Athletic Training with responsibility for teaching coursework in fall, spring and summer. The Director will be responsible for providing comprehensive athletic healthcare and administrative oversite of the athletic healthcare team while simultaneously providing education, supervision and instruction to athletic training students. This is a full-time, 12-month, program-track appointment within the School of Physical Education, Performance and Sport Leadership beginning January 2027. Expertise and leadership in the field of athletic training, demonstrated excellence in college-level and clinical teaching, and a strong commitment to service and professional activities is expected.

Actual salaries will vary depending on multiple factors, including but not limited to degrees attained, experience, and other considerations permitted by law. Comprehensive compensation details, including any additional benefits, will be communicated upon finalization of the employment offer.

Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for:
• Strategic and operational leadership of athletic healthcare services, including maintenance of a wholistic integrated health and wellness athletic healthcare team consisting of graduate fellows, Resident athletic trainers and athletic training faculty members.
• Teaching courses within the CAATE accredited MSAT program
• Maintaining a budget, managing inventory and completing purchasing.
• Exercising independent medical authority for health care decisions related to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play of student athletes while performing professional duties of athletic training related to specific sport-specific responsibilities, including attendance at team practices and competitions.
• Organizing and conducting medical clearance and pre participation physicals for student athletes.
• Maintaining electronic medical records for all student athletes.
• Working collaboratively with the Department of Athletics' Leadership Team.
• Serving as primary liaison for Athletic Healthcare services with the Team Physician, athletics insurance provider, the Director of the Counseling Center, the Director of the Health Center and the Director of the Strength and Conditioning.
• Continuing NCAA and NEWMAC health and safety compliance
• Adhering to all NATA standards and guidelines regarding care of student athletes
• Development, implementation, routine assessment and updating of athletic healthcare policies and procedures.
• Serving as a Clinical Preceptor for the CAATE accredited MSAT program providing clinical education, supervision, and instruction to athletic training students.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must possess exemplary organizational and communication skills and have at least two years of college teaching and/or head/director-level athletic trainer experience who can bring diverse perspectives to this growing department and who are motivated to help students succeed. 4 or more years of experience as a certified athletic trainer, licensed or eligible for licensure in Massachusetts and an NPI number. Candidates must possess strong clinical, administrative, and technology skills.

Interested candidates for this position will have an earned degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited institution, preference will be giving to individuals who have a post-professional doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution in Athletic Training or a related discipline. Candidates must have demonstrated contemporary expertise in one or more of the following areas: urgent and emergent care, primary care, therapeutic intervention or orthopedics. The environment of the athletic training clinic fosters collaboration between faculty, staff, graduate teaching fellows, residents and athletic training students. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential as well as the ability to work cooperatively with the sports medicine team.

Preferred Qualifications:Preferred qualifications include 5 or more years of experience with administrative responsibilities, 3 or more years' experience as a preceptor, and 3 or more years' experience teaching college-level courses, and CPR/AED instructor certification. Experience using The Athletic Trainer System also preferred.
