Position Title: API Developer

Location:

Period of Performance:

Start Date: One 1-year base period plus 1-year option periods

Place of Performance:

Remote (Mostly Remote - needs to be able to attend meetings at USDA in DC)

Position Summary: The API Developer will support the USDA's Enterprise Human Capital Modernization & Transformation initiative. In this role, you will design, develops, and deploys RESTful and event-driven APIs. Implements secure authentication, ensure reliability and versioning, and supports enterprise integration standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Core Deliverables: Interface development, APIs, integration services, authentication, system connectivity.
  • Systems Integration Engineering: APIs, integrations, interface design, ICDs, ETL/ELT pipelines, interface remediation, integration testing
  • Databricks Lakehouse Support: Lakehouse architecture, security design, common data model, migration framework, reporting and analytics
  • Knowledge Transfer: Training, SOPs, workshops, shadowing sessions, documentation, repository management


Required Qualifications:
  • Years of Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive professional experience in API development, systems integration, software development, or a related field.
  • API Design, Development, and Deployment: Experience designing, developing, and deploying RESTful and event-driven APIs supporting enterprise system integration.
  • Technical Documentation and Version Control: Experience developing and maintaining API/service definitions, integration specifications, interface control documents, and data mappings with change control and versioning.
  • API Security, Reliability, and Governance: Experience implementing secure authentication, reliability, and versioning for APIs and services consistent with enterprise integration requirements.
  • End-to-End Systems Integration: Experience supporting end-to-end systems integration, including interface configuration, data exchange modeling, and cross-system workflow coordination.
  • Legacy Systems Interface Management & Remediation: Experience configuring and supporting inbound and outbound data interfaces with NFC and USDA legacy systems, including legacy-to-modern interface remediation, testing, and validation.
  • Integration Troubleshooting and Quality Assurance: Experience troubleshooting integration issues involving connectivity, data transformation, authentication, and performance, and supporting regression, performance, and failover testing.


Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Engineering.
