Role Summary

Anthropologie Home is looking for a Senior R&D Designer to lead the research and development for the Home Accessories Design team. This role bridges the worlds of trend forecasting, material innovation, and the balance of form and function. Instead of focusing on the next seasonal drop, our R&D team acts as Anthropologie's creative lab. This role focuses on scouting innovative new techniques, experimenting with materials, and pushing the boundaries of home design. Collaborating closely with cross-functional partners, this role will bridge the gap between abstract, blue-sky ideas and scalable production, ensuring our products are uniquely "only-at-Anthro" while remaining cost-conscious and manufacturable.

Role Responsibilities

  • Trend & Concept Research: Source inspiration for new ideas, materials, and techniques across a broad range of influences, including fashion, home, design, and contemporary art.
  • Product Development: Partner with our vendor base to develop new materials and techniques, creating usable swatches, mock-ups, and reference samples.
  • Presentations & Milestones: Present relevant quality references to the design team and deliver compelling concepts during sketch reviews and seasonal milestones for the executive team.
  • Design Partnership: Partner closely within the design team from initial ideation through sketching and briefing stages, maintaining an open flow of communication to seamlessly integrate material innovations and vendor capabilities into the design process.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: In partnership with the Product Development (PD) team, provide technical guidance on materials and techniques to the broader design team.
  • Brand Consistency: Create and maintain a consistent design language and aesthetic standards across all product categories.

Role Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience as a product designer, with a specific focus on home accessories or a related field.
  • Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in bringing innovative, commercially viable products to market.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of materials, techniques, manufacturing processes, and construction methods.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.).
  • Prototyping Skills: Experience with prototyping techniques (e.g., 3D printing, hand-modeling, or clay modeling).
  • Core Competencies: Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Aesthetic Eye: A keen eye for detail and a genuine passion for creating beautiful, functional, and storytelling products.
