Full Job Description
Amazon Dedicated Cloud Engineer, US ADC Security
Would you like to operate the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure and help U.S. Government agencies solve complex technical problems? AWS has established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we do with the U.S. Intelligence Community, building and operating some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world.
The US ADC Security Engineering team is seeking a motivated ADC Engineer I to support day-to-day operations of large-scale cloud systems. You have a working knowledge of Linux, networking, and cloud services fundamentals, and you are eager to learn, follow established procedures, and grow your troubleshooting skills alongside experienced engineers.
This is a shift-work position. The team runs 24/7 operations, which may require you to work some nights and/or weekends.
This position requires that the candidate selected currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
Key job responsibilities
- Provide front-line operations support for large-scale distributed systems on a 24/7 shift rotation.
- Monitor systems and alarms, and troubleshoot issues using established runbooks and procedures.
- Gather data on customer issues and escalate to senior engineers or service teams in a timely manner.
- Execute routine operational tasks and use existing automation and scripts to complete work accurately.
- Write and maintain simple scripts (e.g., Bash or Python) that automate repetitive tasks, with guidance and code review from senior engineers.
- Document troubleshooting steps, update runbooks, and share what you learn with the team.
A day in the life
You start your shift by reviewing open tickets, alarms, and handoff notes from the previous shift. You work through issues using runbooks, collect logs and metrics to help find the cause of problems, and escalate to senior engineers when an issue goes beyond established procedures. Between tickets, you complete routine operational tasks, work on small scripts that cut down repetitive manual steps, update documentation, and learn the environment from experienced engineers. Before handing off, you record what was done and what is still open so the next shift can pick up smoothly.

- 3+ years of technical troubleshooting or similar experience
