AI Technical Specialist

Location: US- Remote / Home-based

About the Role

BSI is expanding its Artificial Intelligence Notified Body and is looking for an experienced AI Technical Specialist to join our AI Conformity Assessment team.

You will use your technical expertise in AI and machine learning to support the assessment of AI-enabled products and software across industries including medical devices, robotics, and biometrics. You will also help shape the tools, processes, and training that support BSI's growing AI conformity assessment capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review technical documentation and assess AI systems against applicable regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Support AI conformity assessments and provide technical guidance to clients and internal teams.
  • Participate in client meetings and support CE marking and certification activities.
  • Provide AI technical expertise, mentoring, and guidance to colleagues.
  • Support the development of AI assessment procedures, tools, training, and testing methodologies.
  • Participate in internal projects developing and testing AI tools to enhance BSI's assessment processes.
  • Support accreditation, quality, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Identify opportunities to apply AI expertise across BSI's services and processes.

About You

You'll ideally have:
  • A Bachelor's degree equivalent in AI, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Medical Device Software, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of post-graduate experience in AI/ML model development, ideally within a regulated industry or research environment.
  • Knowledge of AI regulations, standards, and relevant guidance.
  • Experience in at least two AI/ML areas, such as deep learning, neural networks, supervised/unsupervised learning, classification, regression, fuzzy logic, probabilistic methods, optimization, LLMs, or biometrics.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycles and risk management.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across a global, multidisciplinary team.

The salary for this position can range from $119,400 to $140,000 annually; actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's competencies, level of experience, education, location, divisional budget and internal peer compensation comparisons.
