About the Role

Reports to: COO

We're looking for someone to make Smooth run smarter. You'll work across the whole company - Operations, People & Talent, Marketing, Editorial, Events, and Brand Partnerships - to find the repetitive, low-human-value, transactional work slowing teams down, and build the AI-powered solutions that eliminate or streamline it.

We've already built a lot of internal tech, and you'll work on, own, and optimize it, alongside everything new you build from scratch.

This is an individual contributor role for someone who's equal parts curious, technical, and obsessed with making things work better.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify repetitive, low-human-value, transactional work across teams that's ripe for automation
  • Design, build, and own AI-powered solutions: tools, agentic workflows, automations, and integrations that eliminate or streamline manual work
  • Maintain and continuously optimize the internal tools and systems Smooth has already built
  • Partner directly with team leads to scope, prioritize, and roll out new workflows
  • Document and train teams on new tools and processes so adoption actually sticks
  • Evaluate new AI and automation platforms, and make the case for what's worth adopting
  • Track and report on the impact of what you build - time saved, errors reduced, work eliminated

Requirements

  • Experience building automations, workflows, or AI-powered tools (whether at an actual job or just for fun!)
  • Know your way around no-code/low-code automation platforms (Zapier, Make, n8n, or similar) and AI/LLM tooling (Claude, ChatGPT, or agentic AI frameworks)
  • Comfort with scripting and APIs (Python or JavaScript, REST APIs, webhooks) for custom integrations beyond what no-code tools can do
  • A self-starter mentality - you spot the inefficiency before anyone asks you to fix it and are keeping yourself up-to-date on all the new tools coming out
  • Strong communication and product skills; you can work with non-technical stakeholders and translate their pain points into a working solution - this is arguably the most important part!
  • NYC-based, in-office [Monday-Thursday]

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $85,000-$100,000
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Unlimited PTO (minimum 10 days annually)
  • Direct access to leadership and a real hand in shaping how Smooth operates
