Job SummaryThe Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day administrative, business and financial operations for the AU Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. The Administrator has oversight for the Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Ambulatory Practice Sites in the Medical Office Building (MOB) and the second floor of the main hospital. The Administrator has responsibilities for ensuring high quality patient/family centered care, including ready access to Ambulatory Care Services, as well as achieving optimal business performance for the Practice Sites and the Health System. The Administrator has responsibility for adherence to AU and Health System policies and procedures.
ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
General Responsibilities Responsible for the daily administrative, operational, and financial management of the AU Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and their ambulatory practice sites.
Ensures high-quality, patient-centered care, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and adherence to AU and Health System policies.
Oversees staff supervision, financial performance, program development, project coordination, and facility operations.
Assists with business planning and implementation while fostering collaborative relationships to support organizational goals and enhance patient care services.
General Administration - Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Oversees departmental operations, staff, and administrative functions for Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
Manages budgeting, financial performance, reporting, and compliance with institutional policies.
Leads recruitment, supervision, and development of administrative staff, faculty, and APPs.
Oversees space, property, and resource management to support departmental goals and operations.
Operations & Patient Care Leads day-to-day operations of ambulatory practice sites, ensuring efficient, patient- and family-centered care and excellent customer service.
Develops and implements clinical and operational services to improve patient access, satisfaction, and care delivery.
Collaborates with physicians, faculty, and staff to optimize patient flow, access standards, and clinical performance.
Financial & Business Management Oversees all financial operations, including budgeting, revenue cycle management, billing, collections, reimbursement, financial reporting, and expense control.
Develops business plans, revenue enhancement strategies, and growth initiatives to improve operational and financial performance.
Monitors financial results and implements corrective actions to maintain budget compliance.
Staff Leadership & Development Recruits, supervises, mentors, and develops clinical staff while promoting accountability, teamwork, and professional growth.
Supports physician and staff engagement through effective communication, leadership, and change management.
Maintains a culture focused on service excellence, quality care, and continuous improvement.
Quality, Compliance & Performance Improvement Leads quality improvement initiatives and monitors key performance indicators to achieve operational and clinical goals.
Ensures compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards, including documentation and reimbursement requirements.
Develops and implements policies, procedures, and corrective action plans to support operational excellence and patient safety.
Strategic Growth & Resource Management Identifies opportunities for program expansion, new business development, and community outreach.
Oversees facility operations, space utilization, technology, and information systems to support practice growth and efficiency.
Supports clinical, educational, and research initiatives through strategic planning, resource management, and collaboration with organizational leadership.
Education Administration Provides appropriate infrastructure to support continued excellence in education at the student, resident, and fellow level.
Develop and implement initiatives targeted to meet institution/department goals for graduation, board pass rate, and recruitment of graduates from LCME accredited medical schools.
Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology Graduate Medical Educational Programs:
- Ophthalmology Residency Program - 9 categorical residents
- Otolaryngology Residency Program - 12 categorical residents
Required QualificationsMBA, MHA or MPH from an accredited college or university with at least five years of clinical administrative and business experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesAbility to maintain confidentiality
Detail-oriented
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Shift/Salary/BenefitsShift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B19
Salary Minimum: $144,800/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
