Additive Manufacturing Engineer II

Position Summary: The Additive Manufacturing Engineer II will be responsible for overseeing and improving the manufacturing processes within specified areas of Research and Development. They will design new processes from start to finish, identify areas for improvement, conduct cost-saving analyses, maintain high levels of organization and project management to ensure on-time delivery and product quality, determine problem resolution, and implement improvements. This is a mid-level engineering position requiring 3-6 years of prior experience. The Additive Manufacturing Engineer II will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineers, Manufacturing, Quality, and other team members within the Additive Manufacturing Engineering team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, and implement manufacturing processes in the plant for new and existing firearm product designs, providing budgetary estimates for equipment, tools, gauges, and production rates.
  • Utilize project management techniques to procure tooling and equipment for new products, ensuring they meet launch timelines and cost targets.
  • Identify areas for improvement and conduct formal cost savings analysis using established procedures. Determine problem resolutions and implement improvements to quality and throughput.
  • Evaluate and improve product designs for manufacturability while applying GD&T and dimensional stack-ups.
  • Debug and commission new capital equipment to meet plant goals for quality throughput and cost.
  • Execute turn-key runoffs per SIG SAUER machine specification requirements.
  • Generate new machine specifications with the guidance of the Additive Engineering Lead or Supervisor.
  • Provide production floor support to maintain output and quality for technical systems and manufacturing processes, including high-volume 3D printing and CNC Machining, machine and tool design.
  • Generate detailed process drawings, quality control plans, operator and set-up work instructions, set-up sheets, and production routings using the SIG Agile product life cycle database.
  • Resolve and prevent quality issues related to assigned products and processes and NPI components using statistical methods.
  • Apply gauge R&R, bias, dimensional stackups, control plan methodology, and GD&T.
  • Provide consultation on problem-solving teams and complete assigned tasks per agreed upon timelines.
  • Recommend and implement technological alterations and enhancements to improve the quality of products, procedures, and the output and quality of manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain research, document activities, and prepare reports.
  • Perform as a technical leader for production personnel, including setters, operators, and technicians.
  • Engages in and actively volunteers for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering required, with 3-6 years of previous experience.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) ASME Y14.5M-2009. Enrolled in certification program for Shainin Red X and/or Six Sigma is preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Possess experience in evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Must be proficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as SOLIDWORKS. Basic working knowledge of monday.com. Experience in using data analysis programs.
  • Organization of documentation and record keeping shall be to a high standard.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Communicate effectively to supervision regarding problems and corrective action.


Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
