Role DescriptionSMBC is seeking a project employee to assist with the Accounts Payable Strategic Projects function and ensure successful programs progression. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting A/P projects in relation to Oracle Accounts Payable (AP) and Coupa systems following compliance with bank policies and procedures. Procurement Operations - Accounts Payable group is under the Financial Strategic Planning Department Americas Division. The team works closely with various departments within the Americas Division including Corporate Accounting, Bank Accounting group, Procurement, Human Resources, and other subsidiaries. The team is responsible for leading strategic projects for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accrual, Fixed Asset, expense allocations & other ad hoc projects related to Oracle AP.
Role Objectives: Delivery• Lead strategic A/P Projects from planning through implementation, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
• Experience with managing intercompany allocation processes for shared costs across entities, preparing supporting schedules, reconciling balances, and ensuring timely and accurate month-end entries.
• Partner with Corporate Accounting team to coordinate accounting treatment of Fixed Assets and expense allocations via the Procurement end to end workflow.
• Process monthly accruals by reviewing purchase orders and ensuring the accurate recording of journal entries in accordance with accounting policies.
• Identify opportunities to improve A/P processes, including automation, standardization, efficiency, and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with Finance, Procurement, IT, Operations, and other Stakeholders to implement cross-functional initiatives.
• Support ERP and A/P system implementations or enhancement, including requirements gathering, testing, issue resolution, and implementations.
• Evaluation current A/P workflows and controls and recommend improvements to strengthen accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
• Develop project plans, timelines, milestones, and status reporting for key initiatives.
• Manage multiple projects and competing priorities, ensuring appropriate follow-up and escalation of risks or issues.
• Analyze A/P data and metrics to identify trends, bottlenecks, payment opportunities, and areas of improvement.
• Coordinate UAT and system testing, documenting test cases, identifying defects, and working with technology teams through resolution.
• Drive automation initiatives, such as workflow improvements and reduction of manual processes.
• Assist with change management and implementation, including communication, training, and user adoption.
• Monitor project outcomes and measure benefits against established objectives and success metrics.
• Ensure strategic projects align with internal control, accounting policies, compliance requirements, and business objectives.
• Prepare presentations and executive-level project updates highlighting process, risks, issues, and key decisions required.
• Other Administrative and Ad hoc projects.
Qualifications and Skills- 5 - 7 years of similar work experience a plus
- Minimum Four-year Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting, A/P, A/R processes, Fixed Asset, Accruals, Month end closing, Project management, and ERP/System implementation.
- Experience working with analytics tools such as Alteryx, PowerBI and advanced proficiently in Excel
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP with an emphasis on internal controls and policies and procedures
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Can work independently and highly organized and detail-oriented individual
- Has time management skills, flexible and able to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
