Reporting to the US Controller, this role is responsible for the direct oversight and implementation of daily accounting functions and the financial reporting process. Key responsibilities include leading end-of-period closes, ensuring process efficiency and a strong control environment, and serving as a key accounting resource for cross-functional business partners.
Key Accountabilities- Support the accurate and timely execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including preparation or review of journal entries, reconciliations, as well as other financial and regulatory reporting deliverables, ensuring compliance with US GAAP Accounting Standards and internal accounting policies, while adhering to internal and external reporting timelines
- Assist with trial balance reviews, preparing variance analyses and commentary
- Collaborate with Financial Reporting and the business to ensure proper accounting for new business transactions
- Leverage technology (incl. Google Gemini), embrace new ways of working, and identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiencies, and automation of accounting workflows
- Act as the functional owner for accounting processes within Workday, implementing customization decisions and new feature releases
- Lead or contribute to strategic cross-functional business initiatives and special projects (e.g. Workday Design Review)
- Review financial ratio calculations, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Review GST/HST returns
- Mentor and develop direct report(s), setting challenging annual goals that align with the department's objectives and their personal development plan, and providing timely feedback
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
Required Experience, Skills, and Behaviors:- University undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting
- CPA designation (or equivalent)
- 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP Accounting Standards, including ability to apply accounting principles to new scenarios/transactions.
- Experience with large-scale general ledger or accounting systems such as Workday, Oracle, or SAP
- Adept at learning and integrating new technologies, including AI tools, to enhance efficiency and problem-solving.
- Experience implementing change
- Strong written and verbal communication
