Job Description SummaryThe Accounting and Compliance Analyst is responsible for the frontline management of over 150 accounts, the vast majority of which are federally funded sponsored projects. Using Workday and BA4 Priority software, the position reviews and reconciles each account on a monthly basis to ensure all transactions are timely and accurate, properly documented, have a valid business purpose, are allocable to the award and that any other compliance requirements are met. The position also researches any unexpected charges and takes corrective action as necessary. It will maintain accurate encumbrances for each account and produce and distribute monthly reports to faculty members/PIs. This position is part of a highly effective, collaborative and collegial business team that cooperatively ensures an elite level of service both to the faculty we support, as well as to the University community as a whole.

Minimum QualificationsEducation: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three (3) years of professional finance, accounting, or accounting compliance experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and internal control practices.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to recommend compliance controls.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
Ability to acquire, apply and expand knowledge of the University's policies and operating details for sponsored programs.
Additional Job DetailsExperience with BA4 (Priority) and Workday systems as well as experience working with sponsored projects is HIGHLY preferred.Duties include but are not limited to the following:(70%) Account reconciliation, including:
- Utilizing the University's accounting system of record and the BA4 shadow system to reconcile accounts and manage transactions.
- Maintain accurate encumbrances.
- Serve as a compliance expert and ensure that all charges meet the requirements detailed in federal, state, and campus laws, policies, and guidelines. This includes analysis of the charges themselves as well as documentation requirements.
- Investigate any unexpected transactions and process corrections for erroneous transactions.
(25%) Facilitate good communication and sound account management practices, including:
- Producing and distributing reports, on a monthly basis, to faculty/PIs working on projects supported by the UMIACS accounts.
- Providing input into and working with other members of the business team to promote rapid responses when changes are needed, e.g., low funds or an pending account expiration.
- Working with the business team to evaluate and revise procedures when existing procedures do not allow for effective account oversight.
