Summary: Our Industrial, Construction & Specialty Team (ICS) is seeking a qualified and experienced PLC/Controls Engineer. Reporting to the Facility and Maintenance Manager in Willimantic CT, this PLC/Controls Engineer will support Willimantic CT. The PLC/Control Engineer will be responsible to design, develop, install, trouble shoot, modify, maintain, upgrade and back-up all PLC and computer software associated with the production equipment in each facility. The selected candidate will work with the Maintenance Manager, Mechanics and Electricians in each facility to support projects and repairs.
Responsibilities Include:- Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of wire and cable equipment and processes.
- Support the maintenance department in electrical/electronic systems troubleshooting and training.
- Provide engineering support and direction to the maintenance department for maintaining electrical and electronic equipment in a manner which optimizes operational performance and safety.
- Manage assigned projects which includes cost estimations, designs, specifications, approvals, procurement, installation, startup, cost control, safety and overall implementation to achieve Plant and organizational objectives.
- Manage outside electrical engineering, construction and consulting firms according to the Contractor Management Program.
- Manage outsourced repairs of critical electronic components. Maintain an awareness of the equipment spares inventory and offer recommendations for storeroom adjustments and critical spares as required.
- Assist the Engineering & Maintenance Manager with the preparation of the annual capital and expense budget for management review.
- Adhere to all Corporate and Plant practices and policies in all aspects of work and ensure compliance with Federal, State and local electrical codes, and regulations.
- Develop, write, and de-bug control logic for machine control, make design modifications and improvements to complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment.
- Analyze and interpret electrical schematics to the component level as required to make repairs and return equipment to operation.
- Utilize programming devices to analyze P.L.C. programs for failures or improvements. Maintain detailed records of critical process variables and ensure that programs are logical and as comprehensible as possible.
- Provide direction to electricians in troubleshooting, repair and program AC/DC drive systems.
- Troubleshoot issues utilizing current technology including electrical test equipment and computer diagnosis equipment.
- Carefully and thoroughly document all electrical work. Keep existing documentation current and accessible to other team members. Ensure that copies of software are up-to- date and available to the rest of the Electrical Team Members and that sufficient back-up copies are maintained in a safe location.
- Implement, maintain and have a complete understanding of network communications.
- Work with the Operations to solve manufacturing problems, initiate productivity improvements, and identify future opportunities for the overall continual improvement of the Sedalia operation.
- Liaison with Engineering and Maintenance Team.
- Perform other related duties as per direction of the Manager.
- Back-up all programs and setups with up to date versions on company drive
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or an Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronics preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing (wire & cable experience highly desirable).
- Advanced computer skills required including PLC programming and CAD. (Experience with Wonderware a plus).
- Knowledge of governmental and industry regulations with regard to EH&S.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
