Scope of Position

The Welding & Compliance Engineer develops and improves welding and brazing processes while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and certifications. As the site technical expert for welding technologies, this role supports manufacturing through process optimization, quality improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

This position reports to the Production Engineering and Quality Manager. This role is onsite and is based in Blauvelt, New York.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, qualify, and continuously improve welding and brazing processes.
  • Serve as the technical expert for TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), brazing, robotic welding, laser welding, and other joining technologies.
  • Develop and maintain WPS, PQR, BPS, WPQ, BPQ, and associated process documentation.
  • Support qualification and certification of welders and Brazers in accordance with applicable code requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME Section IX, CRN, UL, CSA, and other applicable standards.
  • Coordinate and support third-party audits, Authorized Inspector reviews, UL audits, regulatory inspections, and certification renewals.
  • Maintain welding, brazing, and product certification records and prepare submissions required for regulatory approvals.
  • Review engineering and manufacturing changes to ensure continued compliance with applicable codes and certifications.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to welding, brazing, quality, and compliance issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, first-pass yield, and cost reduction.
  • Evaluate and implement new welding, brazing, automation, and manufacturing technologies.
  • Support capital projects involving welding automation, robotic welding, and laser welding systems.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturing performance.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by [insert title of manager's position] or Company management.
  • Responsibility directly tied to Watts Value (Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, Transparency)
  • Travel Requirements: 10% to 15%


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in welding, brazing, or pressure vessel manufacturing environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), laser welding, robotic welding, brazing, and welding metallurgy.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME Section IX, ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, CRN, UL, and related certification requirements.
  • Experience developing and qualifying welding and brazing procedures.
  • Experience supporting regulatory audits, inspections, and certification activities.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, Microsoft Office, and manufacturing documentation systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks, including drug screen, and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Welding Engineer or equivalent.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
  • Experience in pressure vessel manufacturing.
  • Experience with robotic welding and laser welding systems.
  • Experience leading automation and process improvement projects.

Working Conditions:

While performing the job duties, you will be working on-site at a manufacturing facility and will perform the majority of your duties in an office environment. You may, at times, be required to be present on the manufacturing floor and will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. You will be required to work in the office at the Blauvelt, New York location (Monday - Friday). Your scheduled work hours will be communicated to you by your manager.

Physical Requirements: Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks like typing on a keyboard or using a mouse for extended periods.

Pay Range:

The expected salary range for this position is $103K - $115 yearly. Actual compensation will be dependent upon individual skills, experience, qualifications, and applicable law.
