Full Job Description

Who we are looking for

This role is the Wealth Transaction Monitoring Lead responsible for the continued design and deployment of suspicious activity monitoring models within State Street’s Financial Crimes Compliance (FCC) function. The responsibilities focus on the development, testing, implementation, and operation of suspicious activity monitoring models and investigative tools designed to mitigate the financial crime risks specific to the Wealth and broker-dealer business.

A minimum of 4 years of experience in suspicious activity monitoring within a broker-dealer or Wealth business environment, including responsibilities in data analysis and/or data modeling, is key to success in this role. Strong hands-on data analytical skills, combined with demonstrated analytical expertise in AML and transaction monitoring, are required.

You will help engineer state-of-the-art models, methods, and features required to support Wealth and broker-dealer products and integrate them effectively with other AML functions. You will document, monitor, and report model performance to key stakeholders. You will also leverage leading technology to develop proofs of concept and evaluate software efficacy based on industry experience across broker-dealer operations, AML, model development, and bank risk technology.

You will play a significant role in partnering with Wealth business stakeholders, data stewards, FCC, IT teams and regulators to understand and explain customer and transaction journeys, identify relevant financial crime risks, and align business priorities with the design and operation of effective transaction monitoring controls.

This role can be performed in a hybrid model, where you can balance work from home and office to match your needs and role requirements. Our standard hybrid model is 4 days on site and 1 day remote. Preferred location is Boston or Quincy, MA. We will also consider applicants from Stamford, CT; Princeton and Clifton, NJ; and Berwyn, PA.

What we value

As Wealth Transaction Monitoring Lead, Vice President, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting FCC and Wealth business stakeholders in the development and documentation of suspicious activity monitoring models and scenarios.
  • Fulfilling model owner responsibilities, including model development documentation, implementation plans, testing support, change governance, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Developing business and technical requirements, including user stories, to deploy and enhance monitoring of Wealth and broker-dealer customers, accounts, transactions, counterparties, and entities.
  • Applying SQL, Python, and data analytical techniques to profile data, engineer features, assess model or scenario performance, investigate outliers, and support threshold or segmentation analysis.
  • Translating broker-dealer business activities, products, customer behaviors, and financial crime risks into data requirements, monitoring features, scenarios, and investigative workflows.
  • Driving efficiency in FCC operational processes through the design and enhancement of investigative tools and analytics.
  • Collaborating with other elements of State Street’s AML Compliance program, including policy, risk assessment, KYC, sanctions, investigations, and data management teams, to identify appropriate data sources and controls supporting models and applications.
  • Partnering with Wealth business stakeholders, IT, data stewards, model risk management, and other control functions throughout model development, testing, implementation, validation, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Building confidence in the accuracy and effectiveness of models, scenarios, data, and processes through continuous challenge, performance assessment, issue investigation, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Producing clear, complete, and audit-ready documentation and communicating technical analysis to business, technology, model risk, audit, and regulatory stakeholders.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in suspicious activity monitoring within a broker-dealer or Wealth business environment, including data analysis, data modeling, and risk identification.
  • Strong hands-on SQL and Python skills, coupled with demonstrated analytical expertise in AML model and scenario development and transaction monitoring.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience utilizing and deploying AML transaction monitoring, trade or transaction surveillance, data analytics, or investigative solutions in a broker-dealer or Wealth environment.
  • Knowledge of broker-dealer products, client types, account structures, transaction types, and applicable financial crime risks.
  • Prior experience as a model owner or in a comparable model governance role is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Agile software development methodology, Databricks, and related database tools and technology is preferred.
