The Water Services Group is seeking a Regional Team Leader for our Boston office who is passionate about people, technical excellence, and growth. This position offers the unique opportunity to continue practicing engineering while developing and mentoring a team of talented professionals.

You'll help shape careers, strengthen our technical capabilities, support project delivery, and contribute to the continued growth of our Boston office and regional Water Services practice. This is not a management-only position; it is a leadership role designed for engineers who want to expand their influence through both technical contributions and people development.

Essential Job Functions

People Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of technical professionals.
  • Support employees' career journeys through ongoing coaching, career planning, training, professional registration, certification, and challenging project assignments.
  • Communicate, connect, and engage regularly with team members to promote collaboration, accountability, and trust.
  • Collaborate with employees to identify appropriate mentors through the Career Compass Mentoring Program.
  • Celebrate important employee milestones, including work anniversaries, promotions, professional registrations, and other achievements.
  • Conduct timely and meaningful annual performance appraisals in coordination with technical mentors, project managers, Technical Delivery Managers, and other leaders.

Technical Contribution and Project Delivery
  • Continue contributing as an engineer through technical guidance, project delivery, quality support, client service, and collaboration with project teams.
  • Instill a sense of personal ownership for work product quality across the team.
  • Support delivery of a legendary client experience with attention to quality, responsiveness, and technical excellence.
  • Promote compliance with QA/QC and Health & Safety procedures for project delivery.
  • Leverage and apply intellectual property through active participation in Communities of Practice.

Staffing, Utilization, and Business Growth
  • Coordinate workload and utilization goals for team members.
  • Partner with Technical Delivery Managers to align technical staff assignments with project needs.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire new employees, as approved of by the Technical Delivery Manager, to support project workload and overall firm growth.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and development within the group.
  • Provide appropriate sales and client support in coordination with the Technical Delivery Manager.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of business performance, including utilization, project profitability, overhead, staffing, and team contribution.

Operational Leadership
  • Approve time sheets and expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure team members complete required training, including Compliance, Health & Safety, Ethics, and other required programs.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead by example through CDM Smith's Vision and Core Values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, essential functions, workload, and project demands.

Pay Range Min

USD $115,253.00
Pay Range Max

USD $201,677.00
Additional Pay Range Information

CDM Smith is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. This pay range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels for the geographic location assigned to the position. In addition to geographic location, a candidate's salary is determined by several other factors including, but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, relevant work experience, skills, required certifications, and education/training.
Additional Compensation

All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
