Responsibilities

The Watch Operations (WO) Analyst supporting a national defense space warfighting program, is responsible for monitoring ground and space-based asset operational statuses and warning against threats to critical enterprise systems to ensure 24/7 Mission Protection. As a WO, you will maintain certification and readiness for your crew position and assist the development of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs), support course of action (COA) planning and improve checklist and job aid effectiveness in conjunction with the integration of developing indications and warnings (I&W) tools. The successful candidate will maintain awareness on high-interest threat activity and support analysis, planning, training and exercise activities. Mission Protection responsibilities include monitoring partner asset statuses and I&W systems to identify, report and mitigate current threats to mission and future vulnerabilities to adversary capabilities. Key to this position is the ability to interpret, document and report relevant enterprise-wide system deficiencies and latencies to decision-makers of all ranks while performing Mission Director (MD) tasks as a back-up (as required).

 

 Responsibilities:  

  • Maintain certification and system readiness in 24/7 WO crew position
  • Report on operations capabilities, system degradation, latencies and statuses that may impact the mission
  • Development TTPs, COAs and work to improve thresholds for checklist entry criteria
  • Assist system integration efforts of latest I&W software tools and capabilities
  • Routinely create reports, products and brief leadership daily and ad hoc for ongoing space events of interest
  • Participate in real world and exercise space event planning and execution efforts
  • Maintain Awareness of current high-interest terrestrial and space-based activity affecting space domain
  • Maintain readiness for contingency tasks and serve as back-up for all MD tasks (as required, when MD is unavailable)
  • Identify any system or intelligence gaps and assumptions that may pose a risk to mission success and report, manage and mitigate those risks
  • Work full-time on-site at a government facility in Springfield, VA

Qualifications

Requirements: 

  • Minimum Experience of 12 years w/o a degree or 10 years with AS/AA or 8 years with BS/BA or 6 years with MS/MA or 3 years with Phd
  • 5+ years of combined experience working in space defense operations, IC or space MGSs (Mission Ground Stations) with bachelor’s degree; 9+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree; 3+ years’ relevant experience with MS in related fields
  • Active TS/SCI with adjudicated Poly  

PREFERRED:  

  • 3+ years of combined prior space operations experience working as an orbital analyst, flight safety analyst, BSA, WO, or satellite mission planner at a ground station
  • 2+ years assigned IC organizations
  • Understanding of orbital mechanics and mission status monitoring applications
  • Experience with STK (Systems Tool Kit) or relevant space I&W system tools
  • Knowledge of foreign/domestic space & ground threat capabilities
  • Experience presenting mission information to large groups and collaborating with military and civilian leaders
Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
