What We’re Looking For

The Vice President & Placement Specialist, Executive Liability is a senior technical role within the ProEx practice responsible for the marketing, placement, and technical management of Executive Liability accounts. This includes Directors' & Officers' Liability (D&O), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), and Fiduciary (Pension Trust) Liability. The role requires deep specialty market knowledge, strong underwriter relationships, and the ability to manage complex, high-value accounts with limited supervision.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of commercial insurance experience with direct specialization in Executive Risk (D&O, EPL, Fiduciary)
  • Level 2 General Insurance License
  • Deep technical knowledge of Directors' & Officers' Liability policy structure, coverage triggers, and market dynamics
  • Strong existing relationships with Executive Risk underwriters at key Canadian and international carrier markets
  • Proven ability to manage complex, layered, and multi-jurisdictional Executive Risk placements
  • Excellent analytical skills; capable of conducting detailed coverage comparisons and identifying material gaps in policy wordings
  • High attention to detail in all aspects of the placement process, from submission preparation through policy review
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; confident presenting to senior client stakeholders and engaging in underwriter negotiations
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting and mentoring Account Managers and junior colleagues
  • Self-directed and accountable; able to manage competing priorities and deadlines across a large, active renewal book
  • Recognized industry designation required or in progress (CIP, CRM, CAIB, RIBO, or equivalent)
  • University degree in business, finance, law, or a related field is an asset

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the marketing and placement strategy for Executive Liability accounts across the ProEx practice
  • Negotiate terms for new business, renewals, and mid-term changes with Executive Risk insurance carriers
  • Coordinate, plan, and develop marketing initiatives to position clients competitively in the marketplace
  • Gather and organize underwriting information from Account Managers, Producers, and other sources to facilitate renewals and new business submissions
  • Review renewal expiry lists in advance; determine which accounts require market submission, which markets should be approached, and what information is required by insurers
  • Maintain and develop relationships with specialty Executive Risk underwriters across all key carrier markets
  • Track, maintain, and follow up on insurer submission responses; review and prepare quotations to ensure accuracy and outline coverage restrictions
  • Prepare insurance summaries, client proposals, coverage comparisons, and related documentation for the production team
  • Analyze and review policy wordings to ensure appropriate coverages are in place and identify material gaps or deficiencies
  • Ensure adequate coverage is secured; negotiate exclusive amendatory endorsements or additional requirements with underwriters as needed
  • Provide alternate carrier options and work to mitigate coverage gaps for clients
  • Conduct daily follow-up with insurers on outstanding items including endorsements, policy wordings, and outstanding quotes
  • Participate in client meetings and calls to address market developments, insurer feedback, and claims trends
  • Attend industry events, educational seminars, and opportunities to further develop your market network
  • Contribute to the training and technical development of Account Managers and junior team members

A Day in the Life

  • Serve as the primary placement resource for the ProEx practice on complex and high-value Executive Liability accounts
  • Work collaboratively with Account Managers and Producers to structure submissions and deliver complete, accurate market packages
  • Lead or participate in critical path renewal meetings and client strategy sessions for major accounts
  • Develop and present structured coverage comparisons and market analyses for D&O, EPL, and Fiduciary renewals
  • Review all quotes and binders for accuracy prior to delivery; confirm coverage terms align with client instructions and ProEx standards
  • Identify coverage deficiencies in incumbent programs and develop alternative placement strategies
  • Prepare, review, and quality-control proposals, cover notes, and coverage summaries to the standard expected of a specialty practice
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of available endorsements, market-standard wordings, and carrier-specific policy forms for Executive Risk lines
  • Track outstanding insurer deliverables and escalate where necessary to meet client deadlines
  • Coordinate with Account Managers to ensure all documentation is processed in EPIC in accordance with HUB workflows
  • Advise on provincial, territorial, and international tax and licensing implications relevant to Executive Risk placements
  • Maintain overall quality control on the Executive Liability book to protect HUB from E&O exposure
  • Support proactive claims advocacy; work with clients, the claims team, and carriers to facilitate smooth claim resolution on Executive Risk matters

The expected salary range for this position is $140,000 to $180,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages which could include extended health benefits, disability insurance, RRSP matching, paid-time-off benefits, and eligible bonuses, and commissions for some positions.
