Olsson Industrial Electric is seeking an experienced safety leader to serve as Vice President of Safety. This newly created role will provide company-wide leadership for Olsson's safety strategy, programs, and culture. The Vice President of Safety will directly manage Safety leadership, with strategic oversight of the broader Safety Team and Site Safety Representatives throughout Oregon and Washington.
The Vice President of Safety is responsible for establishing and advancing Olsson Industrial Electric's safety vision, strategy, risk management practices, and loss control programs. This role will balance company-wide strategy with operational involvement, partnering closely with company leadership, Safety leadership, field operations, customers, and insurance partners to strengthen a best-in-class safety culture. The Vice President will ensure safety programs support regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and Olsson's commitment to preventing injuries and incidents.
Compensation: $150,000-$180,000+ annually, DOE, plus bonus and comprehensive benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead the development and clear articulation of the company's safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures, fostering a culture centered on safe behaviors, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and oversight to Safety leadership and the broader Safety Team; establish clear expectations, develop leaders, evaluate performance, and support succession and professional development.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of company-wide safety and loss control programs across office, shop, and field operations.
- Partner with Safety leadership to ensure effective day-to-day execution of safety programs, field support, training, investigations, corrective actions, and regulatory requirements.
- Balance strategic oversight with operational involvement by maintaining visibility in the field, engaging with project leadership, and identifying practical solutions to safety and risk challenges.
- Establish and monitor key safety performance indicators, incident trends, leading indicators, and program effectiveness; provide meaningful reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Lead enterprise-level risk management efforts related to safety, including review of significant incidents, root-cause findings, corrective actions, and opportunities to reduce exposure and prevent recurrence.
- Ensure company safety programs are designed and administered in alignment with applicable OSHA requirements and other federal, state, customer, and construction-industry standards.
- Serve as the senior organizational liaison for safety-related matters with customers, insurance companies, brokers, regulatory agencies, and company leadership.
- Communicate complex safety information clearly and effectively throughout the organization, ensuring leaders and employees understand expectations, priorities, and performance.
- Develop and manage the Safety Department budget, resources, staffing plans, technology, training investments, and other initiatives necessary to support company operations and growth.
- Build a high-performing, service-oriented Safety Team through effective hiring, coaching, development, evaluation, recognition, accountability, and corrective action when appropriate.
- Stay current on emerging safety regulations, industry practices, technology, and risk trends and recommend changes that strengthen company programs and performance.
- Perform other senior-level safety and risk management responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Educational Requirements- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, safety management, construction management, engineering, business, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience will be considered.
- Progressive leadership experience in construction, industrial, electrical, or similarly complex field-based safety environments, including experience leading safety professionals and influencing senior operational leaders.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute organization-wide safety strategy while remaining connected to field operations and practical jobsite needs.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction-industry safety practices; familiarity with Oregon and Washington safety regulations is strongly preferred.
- Professional safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), or comparable credential preferred.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, judgment, problem-solving, and relationship-management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with safety performance metrics, incident analysis, risk management, budgeting, and senior leadership reporting.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to company offices, projects, and jobsites throughout Oregon, Washington, and other locations as business needs require.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in a professional office setting in Springfield, Oregon, as well as on active construction and industrial jobsites. Jobsite conditions may include exposure to noise, chemicals, weather, uneven surfaces, moving equipment, and other hazards typical of construction environments. Most jobsites are located in the Pacific Northwest, and regular travel is required.
Normal business hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; however, extended or non-traditional hours may be required based on project needs, shutdowns, incidents, travel, or other business demands.
Physical DemandsThis position requires the ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through electronic means. The employee must be able to access and navigate active jobsites, including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing stairs or ladders when necessary, and seeing and hearing sufficiently to observe jobsite conditions and participate in investigations and safety reviews.
