Full Job Description
Role Summary:

The VP, Club & Fuel Technology is a senior technology leader accountable for the full technology portfolio supporting BJ's clubs and gas stations, including POS, workforce management, asset management, and forecourt systems. Reporting to SVP, Corporate Systems, this role oversees a team of approximately 20 technology professionals and manages a portfolio budget of ~$50-70M.

This is a high-visibility, high-accountability role. The person in this seat is expected to operate as a business leader first, technology leader second—translating member and Team Member needs into durable, scalable solutions while driving measurable business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy & Roadmap Ownership

  • Define and own the multi-year technology roadmap for club and fuel operations.
  • Align priorities with business leadership, translate strategy into executable plans, and communicate a clear, compelling vision to both technical teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Educate the organization on emerging trends, opportunities, and new technologies that drive efficiency, revenue growth, or member experience improvement.

2. Business Partnership & Stakeholder Leadership

  • Serve as the primary technology partner to club and fuel business leaders. Build trusted relationships, align on priorities, and ensure technology is enabling the business.
  • Navigate a matrixed organization through influence and credibility.
  • Provide strategic counsel on technology decisions, solution tradeoffs, and program implementation to both business and IT leadership.

3. Delivery Execution & Accountability

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of the portfolio, owning program outcomes.
  • Establish delivery standards, enforce rigor on project lifecycle and change management, and hold the team to commitments.
  • Ensure SOX compliance, cost controls, and regulatory adherence across all programs.

4. Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead a team of approximately 20 technology professionals including product managers, engineers, solution architects, and support staff.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top talent. Set high expectations, coach actively, and build a team culture defined by accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Operate as a player/coach; hands-on enough to guide the work, strategic enough to lead the function.

5. Vendor & Financial Management

  • Own relationships with key technology vendors across the portfolio. Negotiate contracts, manage performance, and hold vendors accountable.
  • Actively participate in capital and expense planning.
  • Identify and drive technology-enabled efficiencies across club and fuel operations, including automation opportunities that reduce cost or improve Team Member productivity

6. Platform & Architecture Governance

  • Guide technical architecture decisions to ensure scalability, performance, security, and availability.
  • Optimize the portfolio for integration, eliminate redundancy, and establish and enforce development standards.

Year One Priorities
  • Assess the current technology landscape across clubs and fuel; create a strategic roadmap that aligns with both the business and enterprise IT goals.
  • Establish relationships with key business stakeholders, IT leadership and external vendors, and earn trust as a strategic partner.
  • Identify and close the most critical gaps in stability, support, and delivery capability.
  • Assess the team; acquire and develop talent where needed.
  • Shift the operating model from reactive to proactive, with measurable milestones.

Job Qualifications:
  • 10+ years in technology leadership, with a track record of leading business-critical retail technology programs at scale
  • Deep POS experience in a 100+ store environment
  • Proven track record delivering complex programs on time and on budget
  • Experience managing technology budgets of $25M+ and leading teams of 15 or more
  • Strong vendor management and contract negotiation experience
  • Business acumen and ability to connect technology decisions to P&L impact
  • Track record leading high-performing teams through change

Strong Differentiators

  • Toshiba ACE or comparable enterprise POS platform experience
  • Fuel technology experience
  • Experience in a warehouse club, grocery, or high-volume retail environment
  • Demonstrated success shifting a technology organization from reactive to strategic
