Practice quality medicine, explore your clinical interests, and join a team that values your time.

Suffield Veterinary Hospital is seeking a full-time veterinarian to join our five-doctor general practice. Established in 1983, our hospital provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for dogs, cats, and exotic pets, including rabbits, ferrets, and birds. Our doctors bring interests in dentistry, exotics, and behavior, creating an environment where you can collaborate with colleagues while enjoying a varied caseload.

We are looking for a kind, collaborative veterinarian who enjoys building lasting client relationships and supporting the human-animal bond. The ideal candidate is comfortable with canine and feline dentistry and performing routine general practice and soft tissue surgeries each week. Experience with exotic pet dentistry is a plus.

What to Expect
  • A schedule that respects your time. Work 30-40 hours per week across 4 days, with a Saturday rotation and no on-call responsibilities. Our last appointment of the day is at 5:00pm, with no expectation to stay late. Doctor appointments are scheduled in 20- to 30-minute blocks, and a daily lunch break is scheduled from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Major holidays are off.
  • A collaborative, well-supported team. With a 2.5-to-1 staff-to-doctor ratio, you will work alongside licensed veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, client service representatives, and kennel staff who help support patient care and daily hospital operations.
  • A varied caseload. Provide preventive care, medical workups, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery for small animal patients, with opportunities to care for exotic pets. Our team also has an interest in behavior and provides care for wildlife. Urgent and emergency visits for established clients are accommodated when time and doctor availability allow.
  • The tools to support your medicine. Our hospital features four exam rooms, two surgical suites, in-house IDEXX laboratory capabilities, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, and EKG equipment. We use Impromed practice management software.
  • Access to additional expertise. A traveling specialist ultrasonographer is available for more complicated workups, and nearby specialty and emergency hospitals provide referral options when patients need advanced care.
  • A thoughtful approach to patient comfort. Our team incorporates selected Fear Free handling techniques to help reduce stress during visits.
  • An inclusive workplace where your voice matters. We consider the needs of patients, clients, and staff when developing protocols and making practice decisions. Kindness, communication, and a team-first attitude are central to how we work together.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary of $130,000-$150,000, plus ProSal with no negative accrual
  • Sign-on bonus available
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Retirement benefits
  • Paid holidays, PTO, and continuing education days
  • Continuing education allowance
  • Uniform allowance and pet care discounts
  • Relocation assistance and employment sponsorship
  • Plumb's/VIN membership
  • Covered professional dues, license fees, and AVMA-PLIT coverage
  • Partnership opportunities through Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP), with operational, marketing, and financial support that allows you to focus on veterinary medicine

  • A valid veterinary license in the state of Connecticut
  • Confidence providing general medical care and canine and feline dentistry
