Position Reports To: Safety Superintendent
Position Overview:Working closely with Underground Operations, the role of Underground Safety Advisor is to promote, coordinate, and implement activities to maintain and improve high levels of health and safety in the underground setting. The incumbent will develop and implement programs and activities necessary to prevent incidents that may result in personal injury or property damage, oversee and align with underground Contractor Safety Departments and support industrial hygiene management including associated testing. This position is based full-time at the Mine Site and consists of 12 hour days on a 7 Days On, 7 Days Off rotation.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement and convey health and safety procedures and assist Mine Operations on SOP development.
- Develop underground programs and procedures and participate in risk assessments.
- Work with other site operations to determine current safety issues.
- Respond to queries and provide information to all employees and safety committees.
- Assist in the management of complex health and safety issues relating to the underground environment.
- Participate and/or lead incident/accident investigations.
- Implement activities for employee health and safety.
- Participate in toolbox talks of departments.
- Develop toolbox topics
- Ensure the effective implementation of all health and safety related activities.
- Maintain alignment with Contractor Safety Program
- Adhere to policies and procedures related to health and safety and follow established procedures and quality standards.
- Prepare reports and complete required documentation related to health and safety.
- Ensure required reference material is current and consistent with regulations and policies.
- Provide technical H&S assistance with Underground Capital and Construction-based projects related to health and safety.
- Assist ERT Coordinator with compliance with Ontario Mine Rescue requirements.
Qualifications- College or Technical diploma in a related field is an asset
- CSRP or equivalent is an asset
- Operational experience in the UG mining field
- 3 - 5 years of related health and safety experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants as they pertain to underground mining
- Experience in a recognized Mine Rescue program preferred
- Strong organization skills with the ability to plan and schedule programs and activities
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to function with all levels of the organization with multiple internal and external stakeholders
- Train-the-Trainer certification and/or adult training accreditation will be considered an asset
CompensationThe anticipated salary range for this position will be between $100,000.00 - $120,000.00.
