Essential Job Functions (Other related duties may be assigned):
Principal accountabilities are monitoring and directing the implementation of strategic financial operations, participating in key decisions as a member of the UMW leadership, overseeing the issuance of financial information, supervising the management of UMW investments, understanding and mitigating key elements of the organization's risk profile and monitoring cash balances and cash forecasts.
Financial Oversight- Manages annual budget and budget creation process of under direction of the General Secretary/CEO and the Board of Directors
- Ensures financial viability of the organization, from budgeting to reporting to auditing
- Maintains accountability of financial records in partnership with the senior leaders in the Finance area, including Controller
- Responsible for ensuring that the Financial and Administration unit employs sound financial practices and effective risk management strategies
- Leads strategic and practical engagement with the property owned by the organization operated by others and recommends needed investment and transactions to the Board for action.
- Keeps the Board of Directors informed about all financial matters
- Authorized to sign all contracts and financial instruments
Organizational Management- Work with UMW Board of Directors to provide vision/direction and fiscal planning for the organization
- Provides oversight for the monitor analysis functions of finance to provide data and guidance to organization management, for good stewardship of organizational assets and member giving.
- Professionally manages UMW day-to-day finance operations while maintaining standards in the nonprofit industry and consistent with the Code of Ethics for UMW, the General Agencies and the UMC Book of Discipline.
- Directs and supervises staff, including hiring, training, evaluating, developing and terminating finance personnel
- Skillfully plans, organizes and implements UMW efforts to assure progress on immediate and long-term.
- Oversees the expenses of the Finance, Property, NMI and Grants Management units to ensure most effective and efficient use of dollars spent and good stewardship of resources entrusted to United Methodist Women.
- Oversee the legal review and signing of all contracts with external vendors.
- Responsible for serving as primary point of contact for external legal counsel.
