DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The Trauma Program Manager performs a variety of duties to ensure the overall success of the Trauma Program. The Trauma Program Manager is responsible for strategic planning, program development, fiscal management, and compliance with standards and oversight of clinical nursing practice. The Program Manager develops and implements in collaboration with the Trauma Director, Senior Director of Nursing Specialty Care and ED Departmental Manager, the fiscal budget of Trauma Service to ensure that available resources encourage the program's success. Responsible for the supervision and coordination of the Trauma Registrar positions and the Ortho/Trauma PI Coordinator through evaluation, feedback, orientation, training and development. Ensures the program is in compliance with various regulatory agencies, hospital standards and national standards (JCAHO, OSHA, and American College of Surgeons). Maintains and updates clinical expertise on a regular basis in the Trauma Room and Emergency Department. Establishes a strong relationship with the Medical Director of the Trauma Program and other program managers to insure the Trauma Programs are in compliance with goals and objectives of the hospital and Trauma Service strategic plans. Develops professional relationships with patients, families, members of the medical Staff, pre-hospital care services and non-hospital agencies. Develops and oversees Performance Improvement Program and identifies program outcomes consistent with hospital policy and American College of Surgeons Standards. Represents department in local, regional and national meetings as required. Maintains professional credentials. Observes all health and safety requirements. The position requires knowledge and skill in: professional nursing theory and practice, trauma care and trauma systems, principals of teaching, and learning, research and continuous quality improvement. Knowledge, understanding, acceptance and support of philosophic objectives and policies of Berkshire Medical Center and Berkshire Health Systems are essential. Performs other similar and related duties as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
Experience:
Employment with a Level I or II Trauma Center Emergency Department for a minimum of 2 years.
Trauma Program Management Experience Preferred.
Computer experience with data bases, Microsoft Word and Power Point applications.
Clinical experience in the practice of trauma nursing.
Experience in teaching and performance improvement.
Education and Training:
Graduate from accredited school of nursing BSN required; MSN or NP preferred.
Attendance of a Trauma Coordinator's Basic Course within 1 year of hire.
Attendance of Trauma Coordinator's Advanced course within 2 years of hire.
RN Licensure - Licensed as a professional nurse within commonwealth of Massachusetts
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider required, Instructor preferred.
