Job Responsibilities:

The Toolroom Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the toolroom, ensuring that all tools, dies, and equipment are maintained, repaired, and available for production use. This role involves supervising toolroom staff, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring that all toolroom activities comply with safety and quality standards
  • Assist in the coordination of activities of Tool and Die/ Mould Makers and Apprentices.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the absence thereof.
  • Support supervisor/manager on evaluating team members and improving deficiencies
  • Help in the scheduling of all toolroom activities.
  • Perform the work of a Tool and Die/ Mould Maker at a level requiring greater judgement, experience and skills.
  • Ensure work meets drawing specifications.
  • Construct or ensure proper construction of tooling and prototypes.
  • Commitment to the conformance of repairs of tooling and testing of tooling to specifications by checking work done by whatever method to validate conformance.
  • Support production during trouble shooting activities, identify root cause and take appropriate actions.
  • Above average ability to operate a variety of machine tools to cut, mill, grind or otherwise repair work piece to prescribed dimensions and finish.
  • Demonstrated experience working with robotics and collaborating closely with both the Automation and Toolroom teams.
  • Proven training and hands-on experience in Fanuc and collaborative robot (cobot) programming, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Operate a crane to remove and/or relocate dies to specific workstations/equipment.
  • Assist with new tooling and fixture designs and in the research and development of new concepts or prototypes.
  • Verify tool designs for feasibility and functionality before building tools, feeding back any modifications or concerns to the designer and supervisor.
  • Follow all work cell and/or department standardized work instructions/procedures
  • Ensure compliance to QMS (IATF16949), EMS (ISO14001), and security (PIP) requirements.
  • Ensure, with the cooperation of other Co-Ex-Tec departments and Corporate that the division achieves and maintains the highest possible Customer rating for satisfaction; strive for zero defects in all areas of the business.
  • Ensure enforcement of Customer Specific Requirements and Quality Management System (IATF16949) without compromising either Co-Ex-Tec or its Customers.
  • Promote and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices and the observance of protective equipment at all times.
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on both internal and external customer satisfaction
  • Perform regular workplace inspections.
  • Perform Accident Investigations.
  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Train new/transferred employees on safe methods of conducting their jobs.
  • Initiate preventative and corrective actions as it pertains to job responsibility.
  • Initiate and/or participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Attend authorized training in order to develop and/or maintain relevant job-related knowledge, techniques, skills and/or certification.
  • May be required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature.
  • Work shifts as requested by Management.
  • Any other reasonable duty required by Management

  • Secondary school Diploma, or equivalent, preferred
  • Qualified Tool & Die Maker (completed 4 year apprenticeship)
  • 8 years tool and die making experience, preferably in an automotive trim manufacturing environment
  • 1-2 years' experience as a group leader or similar capacity, an asset

Compensation range: $45-48/hour
