Join Us as a Test Engineer!

Are you passionate about building reliable test systems that ensure products perform at their best? At ORBCOMM, we're looking for a hands-on Test Engineer to design, develop, and support automated test solutions used throughout product development, validation, and manufacturing.

If you enjoy combining electrical engineering, software development, and hands-on hardware troubleshooting to solve complex problems, we'd love to hear from you.

As a Test Engineer, you'll play an important role in ensuring ORBCOMM products can be tested efficiently, accurately, and reliably throughout the product lifecycle.

You'll design and build manufacturing test stations and fixtures, develop automated test software using VB.NET and Python, and provide technical support across production and engineering test environments. Working closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams, you'll troubleshoot electronic systems, investigate test failures, and help improve product quality, manufacturing throughput, and test system reliability.

This role is based out of our Ottawa, Ontario office and is full-time onsite, providing the opportunity for hands-on collaboration with our Engineering and Manufacturing teams.

What You'll Do

Test System Design & Development
  • Design, develop, and deploy automated manufacturing test stations and fixtures.
  • Develop and maintain automated test software applications using VB.NET and Python.
  • Integrate hardware and software components to create reliable and efficient test solutions.
  • Support test systems throughout product development, validation, and manufacturing.

Troubleshooting & Production Support
  • Interpret electrical schematics and troubleshoot hardware and software issues.
  • Investigate production test failures and identify root causes.
  • Implement corrective actions to resolve product and manufacturing test issues.
  • Provide technical support for production and engineering test environments.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, test procedures, and test specifications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve test system performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality and manufacturing throughput.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical and manufacturing challenges.


Who You Are

You're a hands-on engineer who enjoys combining hardware and software to solve technical problems. If you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years of experience designing, developing, or supporting automated test systems and fixtures.
  • Programming experience with VB.NET and Python.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Strong electronic hardware troubleshooting and debugging skills.
  • Experience investigating test failures and performing root cause analysis.
  • Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and test specifications.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to support daily tasks and productivity.
  • Commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.

The anticipated starting salary range for candidates expressing interest in this position is $75,000 - $95,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as location, technical experience, skills, certifications, etc.
