Job Description
Ignite is currently seeking a driven, detail-oriented Test Engineer - Journeyman to join our team supporting a Proof of Concept (PoC) for expeditionary additive manufacturing (3D printing) of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and parts in Huntsville, Alabama. This position is the team's hands-on expert on an industry partner's expeditionary additive manufacturing system: producing UAS and parts, testing them from production through operational use, training others on the system, and showing government customers what the capability can do. This position reports to the Senior Program Integrator / Site Lead and is expected to be onsite at the project facility with government customers, with no telework. Some travel is required, including regional travel to military installations and occasional longer trips.
Job Requirements
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Complete new equipment training provided by an industry partner and serve as the team's subject matter expert on the expeditionary additive manufacturing system.
• Operate the additive manufacturing system hands-on to produce UAS airframes, components, and parts.
• Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and test matrices covering UAS production through operational use, including test objectives and success criteria.
• Support ground and flight testing of additively manufactured UAS alongside military UAS operators.
• Record system performance, observations, anomalies, and deficiencies, and collect production and test data.
• Work with the Operations Research Analyst to analyze results against operational requirements and performance objectives.
• Maintain the additive manufacturing system and test resources, and troubleshoot equipment, hardware, software, and communications issues encountered during production and testing.
• Deliver hands-on training on the system to government personnel.
• Support government demonstrations and military exercises, including at regional military installations, and brief government audiences in coordination with the Site Lead.
• Prepare test reports, after action reports, and Lessons Learned documentation, and maintain test records and configuration documentation.
• Coordinate with range personnel and flight operations teams, and ensure compliance with applicable safety, DoD, FAA, and customer testing requirements.
• Represent Ignite and its industry partner professionally and build government interest in the capability.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Aviation, or a related technical discipline.
• 5-10 years of engineering or test experience.
• Experience supporting developmental test (DT), operational test (OT), or technology demonstrations.
• Familiarity with UAS, C-UAS, robotics, autonomy, or ISR systems.
• Ability to operate production equipment hands-on.
• Ability to train and brief government audiences.
• Experience in preparing technical documentation and test reports.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel to government facilities and test ranges.
