About the role

D-Wave is seeking a Technical Writer II to support our growth and continued product releases. In this role, you will join our team of technical writers and work closely with software, hardware, support, and marketing teams to research, create, and maintain customer-facing technical documentation. This includes API reference material, programming instructions, code examples, user guides, system administration guides, hardware documentation, training materials, error messages, release notes, and more.

To be successful in this role, you will develop a strong understanding of D-Wave's quantum computers, the Ocean Software Development Kit (SDK), and the Leap quantum cloud service through study of existing materials, hands-on experience with D-Wave's products, and collaboration with technical subject matter experts. You will support documentation initiatives, contribute to documentation strategy and standards, and help drive continuous improvements to the user experience.

What you'll do

  • Produce high-quality customer-facing technical documentation that meets the needs of technical audiences, including API references, user guides, hardware documentation, training materials, release notes, and code examples.
  • Partner with software, hardware, support, product, and marketing teams to gather information, understand documentation requirements, and ensure content is accurate, complete, and aligned with product functionality.
  • Participate in the product development lifecycle to identify, plan, and deliver documentation additions, enhancements, and updates for new releases.
  • Analyze existing and proposed content to identify opportunities for reuse, single-sourcing, consistency, and improved maintainability across documentation assets.
  • Identify, track, and resolve documentation gaps, inconsistencies, and defects, particularly related to product maintenance, troubleshooting, and user workflows, using tools such as Git and Jira, through hand-on work on the product and APIs.
  • Define, review, and improve documentation management processes, standards, and best practices, while incorporating relevant industry trends and advancements.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate, and user-friendly information across customer-facing platforms, including documentation websites, open-source repositories, learning management systems, and knowledge bases.
  • Review and edit peer content to maintain quality, clarity, consistency, and adherence to established documentation standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in the documentation experience by recommending process enhancements, improving content discoverability, and advocating for customer documentation needs across teams.


About You

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience as a technical writer producing customer-facing documentation for software development or technical audiences.
  • Experience coding in Python.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work on schedule.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical information and determine the best approach to communicate it.
  • Ability to quickly learn complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and cross-functional partnership skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality.

During the interview process, your Recruiter will explain how our rubrics work across all our total rewards (base, equity, bonus, perks, benefit, culture) offerings. The base salary for this role is targeted between $84,000 - $115,000 CAD per year. The final offer is determined by your proficiencies within this level.
