Job Duties:
- Bridge the gap between designers and engineers.
- Provide technical solutions to design problems.
- Identify features and systems that need to be designed and prototyped based on the game design requirements.
- Design, prototype, implement, and refine new and existing features and game systems within UE5 and Blueprints.
- Drive and follow-up on UE5 prototyping and gameplay tools creation with the features team.
- Assist programming team with interpreting design requirements for game features.
- Active development towards improving the stability of the game through debugging and optimizing game logic/behaviour.
- Work with team members to support and share knowledge of UE5 features / tools.
- Encourage creativity through sharing ideas and creating content with team members.
- Provide hands on support for designers and engineers to optimize work flows and game performance.
- Drive the creation and maintenance of technical design documentation.
Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in game development.
- Experience implementing gameplay mechanics and features.
- Have at least 2 years experience as a professional technical game designer.
- Strong understanding of UE5 Blueprints, implementing gameplay mechanics, features, and content.
- Strong understanding of the game development process, especially related to scripting/Blueprints and mechanics/feature/content implementation.
- Strong collaborative approach to game development and work well within a mixed-disciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills, (both written and verbal).
- Strong understanding of gameplay balance and tuning.
- Experience implementing gameplay mechanics, features, and content.
- Work well within a creative, fast paced team.
- Able to take and provide constructive feedback.
- Experience developing and maintaining a live game product.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
- Experience in Game Design.
- Understand game design principles of shooters (either FPS or 3rd person)
- Experience shipping a working game.
- Interest in shooters.
- Experience in C++.
- Experience with source control software (Perforce).
- Experience with task management software (Jira).
This is a full-time permanent position, with the requirement to work from our office three days per week. The typical salary range for this position is $75,000 - 90,000 CAD per year and is subject to change. The final agreed upon salary is based on work location and may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
