Full Job Description
Job Description
The Technical Consultant is a client-facing technical advisor who helps translate business needs into reliable MHK solutions. The hybrid-based role investigates root causes across data, integrations, configuration, and system behavior; supports implementation and validation; and guides solution decisions. By coordinating with clients and internal teams, the consultant helps resolve complex issues and deliver sustainable outcomes.
Responsibilities
Use SQL, system data, logs, configuration, and approved tools to investigate issues, validate behavior, and identify likely causes across configuration, data, integrations, environments, workflows, or product functionality.
Triage complex escalations by assessing scope, impact, reproducibility, and priority; gather evidence, recommend next steps, and provide context before routing issues to Product or Software Engineering.
Support client file layouts, inbound and outbound feeds, batch processing, SFTP operations, PBM exchanges, vendor feeds, and related integration workflows.
Analyze files, payloads, rejections, mappings, code values, crosswalks, and processing results; partner with clients, PBMs, vendors, and internal teams to resolve issues, identify corrective actions, and document assumptions, dependencies, and repeatable solutions.
Build trusted client relationships and provide guidance that supports successful outcomes; recommend and validate solution options, identify appropriate cross-sell and upsell opportunities, and partner with Sales and Account Management on client growth and retention.
Partner with Functional Consultants to clarify client needs, support configuration, and contribute to implementations, enhancements, and client-specific operational delivery.
Validate configuration, environment readiness, setup, workflow feasibility, and technical outcomes against requirements; identify and communicate risks, gaps, blockers, and dependencies.
Advise clients on configuration implications, product behavior, best practices, solution options, and operational trade-offs, translating technical findings into clear business guidance.
Develop or support risk-based validation for defects, enhancements, configuration changes, client issues, and release activity; coordinate with QA when formal testing is needed.
Confirm changes meet requirements, achieve expected outcomes, and avoid unnecessary downstream impact. Document expected and actual results and unresolved risks in a concise, reusable format.
Support release, regression, upgrade, and production validation across applicable environments.
Identify opportunities to expand or optimize services and partner with Sales and Account Management to support appropriate cross-sell or upsell discussions, client growth, adoption, and retention.
Effectively use approved AI technologies to enhance productivity, automate routine technical tasks, improve the quality of analysis and documentation, and support faster client issue resolution, while maintaining compliance with MHK security, privacy, HIPAA/PHI, and responsible AI policies.
Qualifications
Five (5) years of experience in technical consulting, application support, implementation, systems analysis, integration operations, or a similar client-facing technical role.
Working proficiency with SQL and data analysis concepts to investigate data integrity, validate system behavior, and explain data-driven findings.
Practical experience with Linux/Unix shell commands and structured data formats such as CSV, XML, JSON, or fixed-width files.
Hands-on experience testing and validating REST or SOAP APIs with tools such as Postman, SoapUI, or cURL.
Hands-on experience with secure file transfer processes, including SFTP or FTPS and PGP/GPG encryption, decryption, or validation.
Working knowledge of system configuration, integrations, technical support processes, testing, and environment validation.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, prioritization, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills, including the ability to move from symptoms to root cause and explain technical topics to business, operational, and technical stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
Experience in healthcare technology, payer operations, care management, utilization management, appeals and grievances, or another regulated environment.
Experience with enterprise schedulers or batch workflow tools, operational and BI data environments, Python or shell scripting, and Git or Bitbucket.
Exposure to modern AI platforms and developer tools, including LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, AWS Bedrock, or similar), with an interest in applying generative AI to technical consulting, automation, and problem solving.
Enterprise schedulers such as Skybot/Automate Schedule, Cron, Control-M, or Autosys.
Understanding of enterprise batch operations, concurrent processing, analytics platforms, and data reconciliation techniques used to support operational reporting and system monitoring.
Python or shell scripting for automation, validation, troubleshooting, or operational support.
Education/Certification Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field, or equivalent practical experience, and at least three years of experience in technical consulting, application support, implementation, systems analysis, integration operations, or a related client-facing technical role.
Benefits Snapshot:
Medical, vision, and dental plans for full time employees
401(k) offered with a generous match
Benefits begin on first day of the month following employment
