Full Job Description
Application deadline: Sep 21, 2026

In this role, you'll collaborate with a talented team of System Development Engineers and Systems Engineers to design and implement scripts and tools used throughout AWS. As you grow your technical skills, you'll learn to identify new opportunities that enhance developer productivity and operational excellence. This is an ideal opportunity for engineers early in their careers who want to make meaningful contributions while developing expertise in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and software engineering best practices.

The candidate selected must obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI with polygraph level. Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities

- Write clean, maintainable code for internal AWS tools and services, participating in code reviews and incorporating feedback to continuously improve code quality

- Implement and test new features that enhance developer productivity and operational capabilities for teams across AWS

- Collaborate with peers throughout the software development lifecycle, including design discussions, testing, documentation, deployment, and maintenance activities

- Debug and resolve technical issues across the development stack, actively participating in operational support and ensuring root causes are identified and addressed

- Innovate and Automate: Develop and implement innovative solutions to reduce repetitive tasks, building systems that minimize manual intervention, reduce cognitive load, and allow for proactive issue resolution. Build with technologies like Amazon Bedrock to reimagine reliability engineering.

- Enhance Regional Reliability: Expand regional coverage for AWS's critical services.

- Deep Dive and Troubleshoot: Conduct deep dives into system and service interdependencies, proactively identifying and resolving region-specific challenges before they impact mission-critical operations.

- Mentorship and Growth: Collaborate with industry-recognized engineers, engaging in continuous learning and contributing to a culture of excellence and reliability.

A day in the life

Your typical day involves building features for internal tools that impact teams across AWS. You'll spend time writing code, reviewing pull requests from teammates, and collaborating in design discussions to solve technical challenges. You might debug an issue reported by an internal customer, implement a new capability requested by service teams, or refactor existing code to improve maintainability. Throughout the day, you'll engage with your team through standups and code reviews, learning from experienced engineers while contributing your own ideas and solutions.

You'll help build and operate high-performing systems that will be critical in reducing operational burden for other AWS Dedicated Cloud teams, enhancing regional reliability through scalability, innovation, and automation. You will help us reimagine and continuously improve reliability engineering.

We care about your career growth and assign projects that help you develop engineering expertise, empowering you to take on increasingly complex challenges. Our team supports an inclusive culture where different perspectives drive innovation, and we strive for flexibility that enables you to bring your best to both work and life.
