Description
Description
The SVE Mechanical Engineer's primary responsibility shifts to supporting mergers and acquisitions (M&A) when acquisition activity requires, including technical due diligence, evaluation of engineering and product-related risks and opportunities, and post-acquisition integration. This role requires sound business judgment, strict discretion, and strong interpersonal skills when working with sensitive information and engaging with diverse stakeholders. Outside of active M&A assignments, the engineer drives Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) cost-reduction initiatives and supports sustaining engineering for existing products, including New Product Development launches and the formal transfer of mechanical design ownership into production.
Key Responsibilities
M&A Technical Due Diligence: Evaluate acquisition targets' products, mechanical designs, engineering practices, technical documentation, manufacturability, product risks, capabilities, and opportunities; communicate findings in business terms.
Post-Acquisition Integration: Help integrate acquired products, engineering knowledge, teams, suppliers, drawings, BOMs, design-change processes, and PLM data into Enovation Controls.
Confidentiality and Stakeholder Relations: Exercise exceptional discretion with acquisition, personnel, intellectual property, and strategic information; build trust and navigate sensitive discussions with high emotional intelligence.
Business and Technical Assessment: Weigh technical risks, synergies, resource needs, cost, profitability, and integration priorities to inform acquisition decisions and execution.
VAVE and Cost Reduction (Secondary): Identify and implement cost and design improvements to materials, components, assemblies, manufacturing, and sourcing without compromising performance or reliability.
Sustaining Engineering (Secondary): Address production, supplier, obsolescence, quality, and field issues while maintaining technical integrity of existing products.
Design Ownership and NPI Transition: Accept mechanical design ownership after launch; partner with New Product Development to transfer design intent, validation evidence, documentation, and open issues.
Mechanical Design and Validation: Apply 3D CAD, GD&T, material selection, DFMA, analysis, and testing to evaluate modifications and product changes.
PLM and Engineering Change Control: Manage product records, drawings, specifications, BOMs, configurations, engineering changes, and release documentation in PLM systems.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of mechanical product design and development experience; experience in business-facing engineering, VAVE, or sustaining activities preferred.
Experience with mechanical product design and strong 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance-analysis skills.
Knowledge of manufactured components, material selection, injection molding, casting, machining, sheet metal, and assembly methods.
Ability to assess technical risks and opportunities in acquisition-related work, and to execute VAVE, validate design changes, and solve sustaining problems.
Hands-on experience with PLM systems for product data, drawings, BOMs, engineering changes, and configuration management.
Strong business and financial judgment; ability to communicate engineering findings and integration priorities to nontechnical decision makers.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, listening, and ability to develop trust across organizations.
Demonstrated confidentiality, discretion, and sound judgment in sensitive or ambiguous business situations.
Excellent cross-functional communication, problem-solving, and coordination skills.
Preferred
SolidWorks experience for parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Direct experience supporting M&A technical due diligence, product/engineering assessments, or post-acquisition integration.
Background in ruggedized electronics, environmental/thermal design, supplier transitions, and product cost optimization.
