Description
Description
The SVE Mechanical Engineer, within the Engineering department, is primarily responsible for driving Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives and providing secondary support for sustaining engineering activities across Enovation Controls products. This role partners with New Product Development throughout product launch and the formal transfer of design ownership, then assumes responsibility for maintaining and improving mechanical designs in production. Collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Product Management, the engineer identifies and implements opportunities to reduce costs, improve product reliability and manufacturability, and ensure long-term product support.
Key Responsibilities:
VAVE and Cost Reduction: Identify and implement improvements to materials, components, designs, manufacturing methods, and sourcing while protecting performance, quality, and reliability.
Product Design Ownership: Own assigned mechanical designs following product launch; maintain drawings, specifications, bills of material, and design integrity.
NPI and Design Handoff: Collaborate with New Product Development through launch and transfer of design intent, validation records, open issues, and production knowledge.
Mechanical Design and DFMA: Design and improve enclosures, components, and assemblies using 3D CAD, GD&T, material selection, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacture principles.
Validation and Change Management: Evaluate design tradeoffs, coordinate prototypes and testing, and release validated changes through engineering change controls.
Sustaining Engineering: Resolve manufacturing, quality, field, supplier, and obsolescence issues through root-cause analysis and corrective action.
Business and Supplier Collaboration: Build cost-reduction business cases and coordinate implementation with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Product Management, and suppliers.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of mechanical product design and development experience; VAVE and sustaining engineering experience preferred.
Mechanical product-design experience with strong 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance-analysis skills.
Knowledge of manufactured components, material selection, injection molding, casting, machining, sheet metal, and assembly methods.
Ability to lead VAVE improvements, validate design changes, solve technical problems, and manage competing priorities.
Understanding of engineering change control and the transfer of product design ownership into production.
Strong cross-functional communication, documentation, and supplier collaboration skills.
Preferred
SolidWorks experience for parts, assemblies, and drawings.
Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for drawings, BOMs, product configuration, and engineering changes.
Knowledge of ruggedized electronics, thermal management, sealing, vibration, shock, or environmental validation.
Exposure to supplier transitions, alternate sourcing, should-cost analysis, or high-volume manufacturing.
