POSITION SUMMARY

The Sustaining and Applications Engineer provides technical ownership for released drilling products at our Broussard, LA production facility, serving as a cross-functional link among product line managers, product development engineering, sales teams, operations, quality, supply chain, and service. This role will work closely with principal engineers and operations to manage and implement changes resulting from resolving field and production issues, while maintaining reliability and manufacturability.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product line managers, principal engineers, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to provide technical support of existing or the implementation of new products.

  • Prepare and execute engineering change requests and orders; update drawings, specifications, bills of material, work instructions, test procedures, technical files, and product documentation.

  • Identify product improvements using field performance reports, warranty data, nonconformance reports, customer feedback, and recurring production challenges.

  • Develop, maintain, and improve inspection and testing functions of products as it relates to factory acceptance tests (FAT) and/or 3rd party witness activities (ABS, DNV, etc.).

  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to evaluate customer requirements, operating conditions, interfaces, and confirm technical feasibility to prepare quotes.

  • Draft, publish, and maintain internal and external documentation such as, but not limited to, work instructions, procedures, standards, testing or performance reports, bulletins, customer correspondence, training programs, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards (API, ISO) and company quality
  • Travel to supplier or rig locations as needed for inspections, commissioning, troubleshooting or surveys.
  • Perform other assignments as directed.
  • Undertake all duties in a safe and efficient manner, promoting safe working practices, complying with all company policies including but not limited to the Forum Energy Technologies Code of Conduct and OSHA Safety rules.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3 or more years of experience as a product design, sustaining, or manufacturing engineer, or a related role preferably in oil & gas drilling equipment, with familiarity of tubular and fluid handling a plus.
  • Experience with CAD (Solidworks, Inventor, etc), enterprise resource planning, and proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, tolerance analysis, supplier qualification, and production test methods.
  • Experience in generating and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, test data, and bills of material.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to both technical and nontechnical to internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems using structured root-cause methods and data-driven analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively across functions.
  • Familiarity with applicable quality systems, safety requirements, and industry standards.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers, drafting instruments and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job included close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed mostly in office settings where the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, near areas with equipment under pressure, in high or precarious places, exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration where the noise level can be moderate to high. Adherence with Forum's HSE Policies is mandatory and appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times.

TRAVEL

Occasional (10%) domestic and international travel may be required. Working hours during traveling can mean early starts and late finishes.
