Delta Health is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative
Director of Surgical Services to provide leadership and oversight of surgical operations across the perioperative continuum. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with nursing oversight from the Vice President of Hospital Services, this position is responsible for the strategic, administrative, operational, financial, and clinical performance of Surgical Services.
Areas of oversight may include Preoperative Services, Operating Rooms, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), inpatient and outpatient surgery, Endoscopy, Anesthesia Services, and Central Sterile Processing.
The Director is responsible for advancing safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while aligning departmental goals with Delta Health's mission, strategic plan, and organizational priorities. Key areas of accountability include clinical quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, workforce development, physician relationships, financial performance, operational efficiency, patient experience, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for Surgical Services, including Surgery, PACU, Endoscopy, and Central Sterile Processing.
- Develop departmental goals, monitor performance, and implement initiatives that improve patient access, workflow, quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, accreditation standards, hospital policies, infection prevention practices, and patient safety requirements.
- Oversee departmental budgets, staffing, productivity, supplies, equipment, capital needs, and resource utilization.
- Collaborate with physicians, medical staff leaders, and hospital departments to support quality care, efficient operations, and positive working relationships.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, patient safety events, patient experience, and performance improvement initiatives; implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain regulatory readiness and ensure staff preparedness for emergencies and service disruptions.
- Lead recruitment, supervision, performance evaluations, staff development, scheduling, education, and competency management.
- Communicate departmental goals, performance, and needs to executive leadership and participate in organizational committees.
- Maintain current knowledge of perioperative practices, healthcare regulations, and industry trends. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license or ability to obtain licensure before employment.
- Minimum of five years of experience in PACU, Surgery, and/or Endoscopy.
- Minimum of three years of formal leadership or management experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Complete IS-100 and IS-700 emergency management courses within the first 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications- Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Director-level, multi-unit, or broad perioperative leadership experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Strong leadership, critical-thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written, verbal, interpersonal, presentation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians, staff, leadership, patients, and external partners.
- Knowledge of perioperative operations, patient safety, regulatory compliance, budgeting, staffing, and performance improvement.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, promote accountability, and maintain high standards of quality and service.
- Proficiency with electronic health records, scheduling systems, and other healthcare technologies.
