Responsibilities

Could you be the full-time First-Line Supervisor, Train Operations in Toronto, Ontario we're looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your leadership and operational expertise in a dynamic and impactful field. You'll work alongside a collaborative and customer-focused team of professionals.

In this role, you'll ensure the safe, efficient, and timely operation of train movements across the Metrolinx system, while delivering an exceptional level of customer service. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with operations and maintenance teams, coordinate train handling and schedules, and respond to operational challenges to ensure smooth service delivery.

You'll specifically take care of supervising Train Operators and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards but also investigating incidents and providing training and coaching to support continuous improvement.

We'll look to you for:
  • Ensuring all transportation and customer service activities are performed safely, promptly, and courteously, in compliance with corporate policies, government regulations, and Canadian Rail Operating Rules.
  • Coordinating, directing, and supervising Train Operators to ensure the safe operation of trains and the provision of quality service aligned with schedules.
  • Monitoring train performance, addressing deviations from operating plans, and collaborating with Metrolinx and host railway officers to ensure daily performance.
  • Providing on-the-job training and coaching for Train Operators and supporting the development of follow-up training programs.
  • Investigating customer complaints, accidents, injuries, rule violations, and other incidents, and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Responding to accidents, derailments, or disruptions, coordinating maintenance activities, and ensuring a swift return to normal operations.
  • Serving as a liaison with the Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada inspectors regarding operations and investigations.
  • Contributing to the development of a Safety Management System to meet regulatory requirements.

  • A Secondary School diploma.
  • Experience as a Locomotive Engineer, Conductor, or similar role in the rail industry, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience.
  • Previous experience as a Railway Supervisor, Trainmaster, Superintendent, or in crew management (preferred).
  • Rules Qualification and Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification (an asset).
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work different shifts as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation The expected compensation for this role is $90,000 to $125,000, based on experience and qualifications. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.
