Hematology Supervisor

As a Hematology Supervisor, you will play a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of the Hematology Department. You will supervise and coordinate laboratory staff, delegate responsibilities, support efficient department operations, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. Your expertise in hematology and coagulation, combined with strong organizational and leadership skills, will help ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality laboratory services.

A typical day for a Hematology Supervisor may include:
• Supervise, plan, coordinate, and delegate responsibilities to support the smooth and efficient daily operation of the Hematology Department.
• Provide leadership, direction, and support to laboratory staff while fostering a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and cooperation.
• Oversee department activities and workflows to ensure laboratory services are performed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Provide appropriate reporting of departmental activities, performance, and operational needs to the Administrative Director and other department leadership.
• Apply specialized knowledge of hematology and coagulation to support technical operations within a high-volume and labor-intensive laboratory environment.
• Operate and oversee the use of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, including microscopes, centrifuges, hematology and coagulation analyzers, and computer systems.
• Support the evaluation, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical and operational issues within the department.
• Ensure laboratory practices comply with applicable regulatory requirements, New Jersey laboratory regulations, CAP accreditation standards, and institutional policies.
• Monitor department operations and performance using data-driven approaches to support quality, efficiency, productivity, and financial stewardship.
• Assist with identifying operational and financial needs and contribute to effective resource utilization within the department.
• Maintain appropriate staffing, workflow, and operational coverage, including serving as a General Supervisor on weekends and holidays as needed.
• Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory leadership, medical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to support high-quality patient care and laboratory services.
• Assist pathologists with the education and training of medical students, medical technologists, and other laboratory personnel.
• Promote quality assurance, process improvement, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Hematology Department.
• Maintain effective written and verbal communication with department leadership, laboratory staff, and members of the healthcare team.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities related to Hematology Department operations as assigned by the Department Chair, Administrative Director, or designee.

To be considered for this Hematology Supervisor opportunity, you must:
• Have a Bachelor of Science degree or Medical Technology degree from an accredited institution.
• Have a minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Medical Technologist.
• Hold ASCP or NCA certification preferred.
• Meet the requirements for qualification as a Laboratory Supervisor in the State of New Jersey and applicable CAP accreditation guidelines.
• Be available to work weekends and holidays as a General Supervisor as needed.
• Have specialized knowledge and experience in Hematology and Coagulation.
• Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, computer, organizational, and leadership skills.
