Full Job Description
This job oversees all daily operations of the audiology department, clinical and administrative to achieve the highest level of provider, patient and employee satisfaction. This job performs diagnostic audiological exams in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hearing related disorders and counsels accordingly. Works collaboratively with leaders, physicians and clinical staff to provide a patient centered model of care. Demonstrates responsibility for professional development and for maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentialing for those supervised.

Education

Required - Master's degree in Audiology, or a Doctor of Audiology Doctorate (Au.D.) in the state of practice

Work Experience

Required - 2 years of supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership skills/education

2 years’ experience in the Audiology field

Preferred - 5 years’ experience in the Audiology field

Certifications

Required - Current Hearing Aid License in the state of practice from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA)

Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) in the state of practice from the ASHA

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications,keyboard, and various software programs specific to role.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Clinical skills indicative of a Board-certified audiologist.
  • Ability to identify, test, diagnose and manage hearing disorders in all populations.
  • Able to effectively counsel patients regarding hearing healthcare and possible treatment/management options.
  • Ability to perform Auditory Brainstem Response testing, Vestibular assessments, otoscopies and make ear impressions.
  • Working knowledge of hearing loss prevention methods to educate the public properly.
  • Must be able to organize time and prioritize numerous duties within strict deadlines.
  • Must be able to handle patients in a caring and respectful manner and plan accordingly for medically complex patients.

Job Duties

  • Manages professional staff employees and non-exempt employees and to foster an environment of teamwork, professionalism, customer satisfaction, high performance, and mutual respect of others.
  • Assesses auditory function in normal hearing and hearing-impaired patients of all ages.
  • Assesses the candidacy of patients with hearing loss for hearing aids and implantable devices and provide appropriate rehabilitation options to ensure the best possible outcome.
  • Assists physicians as needed with various procedures and delivery of patient care.
  • Conducts newborn hearing screenings and otoacoustic emissions.
  • Facilitates departmental practice by scheduling and coordinating all types of appointments.
  • Schedules and participates in community outreach programs to promote hearing healthcare options.
  • Effectively manages resources and communicates critical departmental issues to appropriate parties as needed.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
