Substation Superintendent

Saber Power Services seeks an experienced Substation Superintendent to lead the on-site execution of high voltage substation construction projects. This role is responsible for supervising crews, managing subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and delivering projects on schedule and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in substation construction, leadership experience, and the ability to manage both civil and electrical scopes of work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily construction activities on substation projects from site preparation to final energization.
  • Manage field crews and subcontractors performing civil, structural, and electrical substation work.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Coordinate project logistics, material deliveries, inspections, and work sequencing.
  • Monitor progress against project schedules and report updates to the Project Manager.
  • Conduct daily job site meetings and toolbox talks; enforce job site safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records including daily logs, redline drawings, RFIs, and quality control documentation.
  • Interface with engineers, project managers, utility representatives, and inspectors.
  • Ensure compliance with construction drawings, technical specifications, and utility standards.
  • Assist with scheduling, workforce planning, equipment coordination, and material tracking.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested by management.

Qualifications:
  • 5 years of experience in substation construction with at least 2+ years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Strong understanding of substation components including transformers, breakers, bus work, grounding systems, control wiring, and protection equipment.
  • Experience with voltages ranging from 34.5kV to 500kV preferred.
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-lines, and schematics.
  • OSHA 30 certification (required); CPR/First Aid preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work on remote job sites and travel as needed.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with EPC or utility-led substation projects.
    • NETA or NICET familiarity a plus.
    • Familiarity with project scheduling software and productivity tracking tools.
