Overview

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking a Structures Superintendent in Philadelphia, PA. Herzog is constructing a new 110,00 square foot heavy maintenance facility that will be equipped to inspect, test, and perform maintenance, services, and cleanings of fully assembled Amtrak trainsets of various sizes and capabilities including for the new Acela and Airo fleets.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
  • Supervise total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, AE representatives, other contractors, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise onsite functions (scheduling, engineering, material control, and may provide day-to-day direction of onsite administrative staff in accounting, purchasing, etc.).
  • Supervise craft employees and/or other contractors and subcontractors as required by the contract.
  • May authorize and/or approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required.
  • Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
  • Ensure all onsite personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, environmental compliance, etc. Document all violations, notify project management, recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials & equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Perform additional assignments per Supervisor's direction.
  • Manage equipment utilization.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Construction Management/Civil Engineering degree preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 12 years in structure construction management and/or craft supervision experience in similar facility construction.
  • Must have previous heavy maintenance facility (HMF) or vehicle maintenance facility (VMF) project experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of structure construction (technology, equipment, methods); craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations; engineering, cost control schedules and safety required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills essential.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office.


Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
